Weekly Geeks – Spring reading round up

Spring has sprung...the flowers are coming up, baby animals are being born, everything is green and new. Many of us are spring-cleaning or organizing, rethinking and pondering changes...and so I thought it might be fun to look back on the first quarter of 2011 in books, as well as our anticipation for the beginning of the second quarter of the year. Write about any or all of the following:

The best books you've read so far in 2011

Books published in 2011 you've read that have lived up or NOT to the hype

Something new or different you've added to your blog

Organizing books - do you have a new system, new bookcases, or are you simply getting rid of things to make room for the new?

Changes you are making from the first part of the year to the second part of the year

Most anticipated book releases in April, May and June 2011

How your reading changes from the winter months to the warmer days of spring

Is there a book you've read in the first three months of the year which you think will make your top ten list for the year? Share it with us!

My thoughts

This weeks Weekly Geek topic could not be more appropriate for me… As for one it’s a way for me to assess what I have read over the past few month and give some order to it and secondly toss out some question to my readers to see how your own spring reading is getting on.

The best books you've read so far in 2011

I will admit nothing jumps to mind as yet – I have been making a pretty decent headway into my backlist but still nothing yet to write home about…

The year is still early so that unputdownable book might just be my next read ..

Books published in 2011 you've read that have lived up or NOT to the hype

My most anticipated book of the year so far was With Abandoned – J.L. Langley and it wasn’t bad, but it certainly did not live up to my expectation.

This is the third book in the With or Without series and based on the previous two it didn’t sync for me and based on my appreciation of the author’s writing style in previous book, I just had too much issues and niggles with this one....

Hopefully the next book in the series will grab me more.

Something new or different you've added to your blog

Nothing you would notice straight off unless you have notice my lack of reviews – but all the stuff I have done to the blog falls more toward the backend of the blog.

I am still thinking about moving to Wordpress – but, yes but - I am still liking the ease at which Google makes everything for me.

Organizing books - do you have a new system, new bookcases, or are you simply getting rid of things to make room for the new?

I am getting rid of stuff – even before spring rolled around… this is normally the time I do my own book cull. There are some books I have had that are literally just taking up space and I know I will never read.

Some are books I have move beyond – meaning my reading taste have changed or they were impulse buy and they just don't appeal to me anymore. Some are books my kids have outgrown..

Changes you are making from the first part of the year to the second part of the year

Keep your fingers cross –I actually do a review or two.. Putting those words together are still a problem for me at the moment.. I think it’s called tired…

Most anticipated book releases in April, May and June 2011

With the George R R Martin novel A Game of Throne from the Song of Ice and Fire series making it’s television debut in a few days literally I wanted to get a head start on the book.

But I have decided to go the audio route and this comes out this April -  I know I wont finished the entire book before the mini series starts but I will be a pretty decent way along…

I don't normally compare the book and the film version of any book but I do like to read the book beforehand – I am just funny that way and I do not aim to miss this television series as quite a few of my favourite actor makes an appearance in it.

Not to mention the series trailers so far make it look like the production to watch out for this year.

How your reading changes from the winter months to the warmer days of spring

Other than the fact that I really struggle in the winter months to read anything of substance nothing has actually changed about my reading.

I still have a mountain of books to get through, still trying to catch up on a whole lot of series and I am hoping to filter in a few non-fiction (not work related) into my reading life.

Is there a book you've read in the first three months of the year which you think will make your top ten list for the year? Share it with us!

Nope nothing yet – I have to say I have been indulging in book that I would would say are an acquired taste.. Those that will only appeal to readers who are not expecting a lot from them so nothing there to make the top ten list..

I do have a few books on my list that other readers have raved about – one of those might just make my list for the year..

Let me know your plans in regards to any of the questions above?

I completely agree about With Abandon. *sigh* Lover Unleashed by JR Ward was the other big disappointment for me.

Jeez you guys, now With Abandon has just dropped down my must read now list. Well, not now anyway since it's been out for a week or two. I gave up on BDB many books ago.

I have a bunch of my daughter's books I have to get rid of. She agreed to give them up but I'm not sure where to donate them. I'd like them to get the best usage, not just sent to a junky used book store.

I'm not sure I've had any "wow" reads either this year. Hard to say. I read so many I sometimes don't remember. :-) Guess that means if you stand out in my mind you are a blow-me-away read.

Sadly With Abandon was a bit of a disappointment for me as well. :(
