Weekly geek – 10 things about me and books

image

This is an original Dewey Weekly Geek idea! I remembered that I nabbed Dewey's list of ideas from her blog before it closed down, so since I've run out of my own ideas for the time being, I looked over that list and decided we should try this one.

The idea is simple. Tell us ten things about you with regard to books and reading. Let your imagination run wild!

For instance: New or old? Hard back or soft? One or lots at a time? Bookmarks or not? What genres? What authors? Favorites? Habits? Stuff you like. Stuff that bugs you.

I think you get the idea.  You don't necessarily need to use my thoughts above of course. Those are just to get you started. And when you are done, we should be able to get a nice big picture of your reading/bookish personality.

Have fun with this! Be creative! Then be sure to visit around to other participants to see how you compare to everyone else's bookish personalities.

My thoughts

I have missed a few weeks of Weekly Geek – so I am just jumping in and doing a few over the coming weeks.

I love the idea of writing down 10 things about me and books.  As I have been off my reading for the past two month or more  and not really sure why..

Here are my 10 things

10 -  I generally am reading at least three books on the go at any one time. They are normally different genre and in different places, it works for me and I get a bit more than the ordinary amount of reading done when I am on my game.

9 – I buy way more books that I actually read… That was actually a confession. They say it’s suppose to be good for the soul..

8 – I give up easily on series – and sometimes over some silly things. I recently read books 10 of a series I totally love and I couldn’t remember who one of the couple mentioned were, I knew it was time to move on. Fickle aren’t I.

7- I really do need to take a break from reading – but how? After being off the blog for about 2 months and looking around over this weekend – there are so many books to catch up on, so many new authors to try out..  but I needed a break.

6 – I read a Mills&Boon EVERYDAY – This line of book has been a constant in my life ever since I was a teenager and I practically know at least 50 percent of each story before I am even at page 10 – but I love them and they are my own little way to unwind in the evening with a cup of tea.

5 – I really HATE when people dog-ear pages – I REALLY HATE IT…

4 – I re-read ALOT..  Sometime I just even spin to the juicy bits and I am satisfied.

3 – I make alot of book list and have them all over the house, on the fridge, little bits of paper on the bookshelf, little notebooks in my handbag, I even use them as bookmark.

2 - I never watch films/movies that are book based without reading the book first. I have been known to even read a movie transcript or two just to see what was sexed up..

1 – I find that my Mum and I are now reading quite a lot of the same kind/genre of book  - Sometimes when she says “I have read that” I really am freaked.. Have you seen the kind of books I read.. scary I tell you.

What are some of the things about you and book?

Some great facts there. Too scary about your Mom. :-)

My confession, I hate reading paper books now. I find them annoying. Sigh. I'm an e-book girl through and through, however sometimes I have no choice. I re-read a lot too at times. It's just easier to go to the parts you like. *ahem* No thinking required. :-D

@Tam

Since I have been off my game for the past few week - I am literally attached to my ereader...

I have it with me right at the stove - so I am reading loasd of ebooks now as well...( I have become part of the hive)

but

most of my M&B are paperback - so at night I still have the feel of those...

Re-read - yes please.... I have re-read Tionne Rodgers - The Sudsitute at least three time already, I just jump to the juicy bits..

This made me laugh because I have exactly the same reaction. I like to pretend that she just skips over the sex scenes. Which I'm sure she does anyway.

@Kris

I am going with the concept that the copy of whatever book my Mum read is a sanitized version with NO SEX at all in there...

(Sex & mother) in the same sentence, you are talking nightmare zone here..

LOL

I buy way more books than I read too. I also get them from friends and used book stores as well. When I went through my shelves recently took over 100 books off of my shelves that I decided that I would never read. I still have a ton there there and yes, I'm still buying them! lol

Take a break from reading? I could never. Ok, I say that now but I once took a break for almost 10 years. I think I read about 5 books in all that time. It was torture but my kids were small and there was no time. :)

I'm like that about giving up on a series, too. :)

I can't even imagine my Mom and I reading the same books!! LOL

Can't imagine not reading either. It's my lifeline in this crazy world I live in. No books would equal a very crazy, out of her mind Lily. :)

I never really minded bending the corners of a page but what I really hate is throwing books away. Donate, sell, give-away... anything but throwing them in the garbage.

I'm a big re-reader, too. Sometimes I'm in the mood to read but don't want to meet new characters. I just want to revist old favs. I'm like that with movies, too. Can watch them many times and enjoy them just as much as the 1st time I saw them.

@Tracy

I know that feeling about books coming in from quite a few angles - but we are readers so you can't expect any better..

10yrs of not reading - I would probably go bonkers - but when the kids are youngers they really keep you hoping, so not surprising you took that long to get back in to it...

@Chris..

I am always amazed at some things that make me toss in a series..

Glad I am not alone...

I get you on the tossing away of books - at the charity shop that I volunter - when I just started there I thought I would have a coronary when I saw how they treated books..

They were literally dumping thousands of books a week before I took the whole process in hand...

They took years off me I tell....

Exactly - sometimes all I need are old friends...
