Love comes howling when—and where—you least expect it.

Legacy, Book 2

Isaiah Striker puts family first, the pack a distant second. Which is precisely the reason he’s in noisy, crowded Chicago instead of alone in his beloved woods. One look at the owner of Haven nightclub, however, and a simple favor for his brother turns into something else entirely.

Meredith Cross holds her small pack together with sheer determination. After years on the run, they hide in the glare of the city’s nightlife. Isaiah may heat her blood, but she can’t afford to risk the lives of the outcast half-breeds in her care. Once exposed, every bounty hunter and werewolf purist in smelling distance will hunt them down.

But when their sexual attraction spirals out of control, a moment’s distraction is all it takes to lead danger right to Meredith’s door. For Meredith there’s only one choice: her pack.

But Isaiah knows his mate when he sees her. And he’s not giving up without a fight.

“Is there a problem?” Hank strode up to stand just to the side of the stranger.

“No problem. This gentleman was just leaving.” She pleaded with Isaiah with her eyes. If he insisted on repeating his claim of her being a werewolf, he wouldn’t get out of here alive. There was only one of him and three male werewolves. Was he a hunter or just a human who believed in such things?

She took a deep breath. She needed to be calm. What she got was a blast of pheromones and a jolt of arousal. A spicy scent filled her nose and made her sex clench with need. She almost moaned aloud as a shiver of need wracked her body and her nipples tightened. How had she missed this? He was a werewolf.

Impossible. She blinked in astonishment. In all the years they’d been here this had never happened. Male werewolves tended to stay away from the city, not liking the crowds or the closed-in space. It was one of the main reasons why she lived here with her sons and her adopted family.

Oh God! Hank. He was only a half-breed and many full-blooded werewolves were as bad as the bounty hunters wanting them dead. Teague, Neema and Kevin were all half-breeds as well. Their safety depended on her keeping control of this situation at all costs. She straightened her shoulders. If he thought to threaten her family, he was mistaken.

“You need to leave,” she repeated. “Now.”

He shook his head, the corners of his mouth turning up ever so slightly. It made him look sexier, if that was even possible.
Hank reached out to grab Isaiah’s arm.

“You don’t want to do that, pup,” Isaiah warned.

Hank froze with his hand in the air. Benjamin growled low in his chest. Kevin came out from the back office, adding to the growing tension. “What’s going on?”

My Thoughts

With his home pack in a more stable place than it has been in a long time Isaiah Striker  leaves home and the conflicted feelings he has always felt there.  Before he branches out however he has one last favour to do for his sister-in-law Alex, this was no hardship for Isaiah as he likes Alex and wants to make sure she is happy.

What was meant to be a simply or as simply in Isaiah’s world as you can get favour of scouting and fulfilling a request turns into Isaiah’s  libido going into overdrive when he firstly hears the voice of an angel and then he meets her – mate.

Finding a set of wolves living in the heart of the city was the last thing that Isaiah expected, but to find them all confrontational and not actually welcoming is another matter in itself. With his antenna in mate mode Isaiah had tunnel vision when it come to Meredith the Alpha of the pack and a mother bear to each and everyone of her charges.

Meredith has been at this business of running and hiding for a long time and she more than anyone else knows the consequence of hunters finding them. Nature and Isaiah Striker  put pay to that long hell determination to keep her head down and her family safe.

She puts up a brave front but Isaiah is his own man and he doesn’t walk away from his own especially when the stakes are so high.

ISAIAH’S HAVEN is without a doubt a much better book than my first outing with the Striker brothers. Where the first book gave me the history of the pack and the eventual highs and lows of gelling the pack together, this book is all Isaiah's story. Isaiah needs to find his place in the world, he has clear priorities but within the pack hierarchy some things naturally takes second place and he was/is not willing to make that choice.

When he comes upon Meredith and her pack the attraction for Meredith did hit him hard, but I loved that he saw beyond that and wanted to help in whatever way he could despite the fact that it is his presence that sets in moment quite a bit of the ensuing event.

Ms Walter’s did not leave out the sibling dynamic in this book and it was fun to hear Isaiah and his brother converse. More info is also given on the hunters as well and some internal strive is nicely building up within that bed of wasp. There are one or two characters that just by their mere presence they make me want to know their story and where they are going.

ISAIAH’S HAVEN  is a kick ass book and I am hoping for even better things from the next book in the Legacy series.

I was very interested in your review as I have been reading and reviewing some of N. J. Walters for The Book Binge. She is a very good writer and it seems that she has found her stride in this series. I, too, didn't think the first book was more than an introductory volume. Now we are getting down to the nitty gritty of some of the personalities that make up the pack/family. So thanks for showcasing this novel and sharing your thoughts.
