My Thoughts

With a tag line of “Still More Extreme Stories of Still More Extreme Sex”, I opened the cover of BEST S&M III with a little bit of trepidation. Can you imagine me being a little nervy about delving into a book – well I was.

I was and for two reason, firstly I was not sure if  I would appreciate the stories within this anthology, I like BDSM, to be honest I love it – but not the really psychological end of BDSM and from all indication this was going to be that kind of book. Secondly it’s sad to say but the visual person in me was Meh about the cover – once again I am let down by this cover artist and publishing house not taking the chance to do something unique with a cover to draw readers to a book – this was definately a missed opportunity – because the book was good.

I started the book from the back in, because I really read the book because an author that I like “Jude Mason’s” story was at that end of the book. It took me a few days to get through the book – not because I didn’t enjoy the offering but more because I thought I would appreciate it more if I took the stories in short burst and it did make a difference to my appreciation of the book.

I thought the mixed of stories worked well together, if there was a constant in the whole book it was that the core of each story veer more toward a dom/sub or extreme imbalance of power to one person. There were a few stories that literally had my eyebrow lifting a time or two – but all in all each story dealt with a scene, an event, a focal point in each of the characters life and each author I thought did a smashing job.

The stories are short and as such I won’t review the stories as some of them can’t be reviewed anyhow, but just know that it’s not all master and madam’s or even dom’s and sub, there is self realisation here, there is the fantasy of how far a person can go or how much is one’s limit before one break.

Then there is the subtle erotic moments in some of the story. The moment where a touch means so much, the moment when a look or a smile takes on a new meaning. There is the pushing of personal barriers and there is the fact that I wanted some of these stories to go beyond what the author has shared with me.

Bottom Line

The book starts off with an introduction by M Christian himself and I thought it was a wonderfully written piece,  I encourage readers to read it before you delve into this book.

So here, in these pages, you’ll find light stories, dark stories,
powerful stories, subtle stories, fierce stories, and even romantic
stories – but all of them deal with the basic idea of consensually
giving up, or taking, sexual power and control.

This genre is not for everyone and it will never be for everyone. However there are readers/people who thrive on this genre and other readers like myself who don't mind dipping their toes in now and again and this anthology is a perfect way to take bite size bits into the world. All in all I enjoyed all the stories and will be checking out more of Logical lust offerings in the future.
