Wednesday Musing - Fear

Most of us have some sort of fear – Whether it’s fear of tangible things or just things that are in our mind – fear cannot be quantified when it comes to the individual…

I fear loads of things, not seeing my kids grow up and out living my children are two of the biggies. Then there is my fear of balloons and clowns, I have been teased, placed in situations where I am sometimes left panicking because of a fear that I cannot describe or even tell when or how it began….

Year by year I do something to deal with them – this year I have dragged out a set of porcelain clowns that I have had in my closet for the longest time onto my desktop… They will live behind those books on my desk, but I justify it by saying “at least they are on the desk”

I am giving myself at least two weeks before they creep me out and I put them back in the closet… last year I made it to three days…

Greatest Fear

My greatest fear is losing my family
My greatest fear is losing my friends
My greatest fear is reading a book
And not knowing how it ends

My greatest fear is heights
My greatest fear is clowns
My greatest fear is dark nights
And eerie, strange sounds

My greatest fear is the future
My greatest fear is the past
My greatest fear is yet to come
And is coming in fast

My greatest fear is strangers
My greatest fear is myself
My greatest fear is drunken slurs
And imaginary elves

My greatest fear is others view
My greatest fear is a full moon
My greatest fear is losing you
And leaving me so soon

I'm not afraid of clowns, but those things are CREEPY.

I'm with Chris, as clowns go? Creepy. LOL

Besides the usual things like fear of my child dying or myself, I fear snakes, heights, deep water and big bridges. Nothing that renders me unable to function (although snakes USED to be baaaaaad, not they are only bad), but I really get anxious over them.

A lovely poem.

My biggest fear aside from the health/death of loved ones is losing my sight.

I'm not afraid of heights at all yet I've had recurring nightmares (not often though) of driving on a super tall highway and all of a sudden it ends and my car falls off or a bridge over water and my car falls in the water. So my subconscious is afraid of falling to my death from a bridge. Weird!

But my smaller ones include, bears, snakes, spiders and clowns..an tics, but they mostly freak me out

Clowns are SCARY!!!

My aunt use to be a clown collecting fanatic! They never creeped me out because of that, I think. I don't like real clowns though.

I used to fear going back to work, but now that I have been doing it for almost a year, that fear is long gone.

I fear my child won't grow up and be a happy person in life. I fear that I'm not doing a good enough job, but I know it's an unwarranted fear, but I can't help it. When I lose my temper, or get irritated too easily, I feel like it's going to be detrimental to him.

Great post, E.H.! I think probably 70% of us or more were scared as children by an encounter with either a clown or a mall Santa (you know, where the kids have to sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas). It's a totally understandable fear. (The villain in Stephen King's novel It was a clown.) There is just something so garish and frentic and creepy about them.

Rikki on 4 August 2010 at 20:22 said...

OMG, take those clowns away. I hate clowns, and those two are especially creepy!

@Lily..

I have worn glasses for so long - I think I just accept it that I will never have 20/20 or even 20/10 vision, but I am not panicked about going blind...

I hope those nightmare don't come around too often - that would freak me out..

@Blo

I am surprise sometimes myself by how much I am scared of large animals... I suppose if I am around them for extended period of time I would get over it...

@Val...

Hi hon, why do I not feel better to know that a good bulk of the population have some sort of fear of clowns...

I can't even remember how mine started - but if other people break out in panic attack like me, I really do feel their pain...

:)

Erotic Horizon on 4 August 2010 at 21:45 said...

@Rikki..

I have hid them behind the books - I know they are creepy but I am really trying to have them up there for at least two weeks...

So far I am two days in....

Common fears #2 is dying #1 is public speaking.

I have no real like outside infunce fears (clowns, spiders, etc.). I do fear not getting to see my kids grow up.

My husband on the other hand is afraid of Dolphins and spiders. Like total terror, poo your pants in fear, scream like 8 yo girl fear.

Erotic Horizon on 4 August 2010 at 22:18 said...

@Lily OD

Funnily I am not worried about your biggies..

I will die - just when? and I just think of everyone naked - so I'll more than likely giggle than be nervous during public speaking...

I have never heard of anyone fearful of Dolphins.. My youngest is a little leery of spiders... I hope he grows out of it...
