The Sunday Salon – Hobbies

There are few things in life that can get my head out of a book and outside of family, friends and financial obligation – my hobbies are probably some of the things I really don't mind putting the books away for.

I have not been paying much attention to the things I love outside of reading recently – Namely

Scrapbooking – I am a scrapper and a lover of all things paper-craft. I am going to spend the day today doing a collage of my son’s last term at school.  He hates it of course as I show everyone who comes through the door the albums. Hey’ it’s a Mum’s right to gush over her kids – Isn’t it.

Also most of my family and friends have birthday late in the year, so I am also going to do some card outlines as well today.

Some of my other love are  cooking – yup I actually have a piece of paper lying around here somewhere that says I can actually cook, but I have not stretched myself in a while – I have just being doing the usual. I think this week I might surprise my family and be a little creative. Fish is always a good choice or something on the grill… corn, grilled veg..

Then there is the herb garden that I like to tinker in – I love it because the boy child and I planted loads of lavender, basil, thyme and Rosemarie a few years ago and they don't die – even in the winter.. So summers they are lush and just right to stuff in little pillows that we have around the house.

I adore the smell of freshly picked lavender – sometime I just pass the plant and run my hands over the top of it… Great smell..

That’s me sorted for the day and the week as well…

Do you have anything that takes you away from the books for awhile that you enjoy?

Enjoy the weeks peeps…

Until next week – cheers

What is the Sunday Salon? Imagine some university library's vast reading room. It's filled with people--students and faculty and strangers who've wandered in. They're seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them, and they're all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go. Later they'll mill around the open dictionaries and compare their thoughts on the afternoon's literary intake....
That's what happens at the Sunday Salon, except it's all virtual. Every Sunday the bloggers participating in that week's Salon get together--at their separate desks, in their own particular time zones--and read. And blog about their reading. And comment on one another's blogs. Think of it as an informal, weekly, mini read-a-thon, an excuse to put aside one's earthly responsibilities and fall into a good book.

What a great topic, E.H.! I envy anyone who can cook. I can barely boil soup out of a can.

I do share your herb garden hobby. I like to grow them in containers and I like how tough herbs are. Same with cactus, another thing I like to grow in containers. Neither type of plant needs much water and they're great to look at.

Jewelry making is another hobby of mine. It's very hands-on and requires thinking in three dimensions so it's a good break from reading and writing.

I used to always knit while I read, but lately I haven't been doing that. Now I mostly only knit while I watch a movie or something on my computer.

I did a bit of scrapbooking a few years back and gardening as well. I've pretty much given them up though and as for cooking, only when necessary. :)

I do love photography. Getting out and taking pictures or videos then coming back and playing with them on the computer. So much fun!

@Val..

You're an author - so it balances out somewhere there.. LOL

But I get what you mean... Cooking is great fun for me...

I was so suprised the first year the herbs made it through the winter - They really are tough plants... and the pleasure I get from them, cannot be quantified...

I love the hands on crafts as well... Jewellery making really brings out the creative side of people..

@Chris..

I do remember hearing a rumour that knit...

I swear it's only a rumour - the evidence are few and far between and tend to put people in shock...
