The Sunday Salon – Heat, Reading and Summer Holiday

There seem to be a heat wave going on. In the UK  for more years than I can remember it has not been so hot. I try to run around in the mornings to get everything done, as by 9am I am just about wilted.

I hope this week the weather breaks as now we have hose-pipe bans and warnings from the health sector about taking care in the extreme weather we are having.

One of the draw back of the heat is the fact that my concentration is shot to pieces and all I think about is wading through a pool of water or just reclining somewhere with a cabana boy satisfying my every need.

I have been in the park and under the fan, so I did eventually get some reading done. I came across Sara Creasy - Song of Scarabaeus on one of the sci/fi fantasy website that I trawl and it just called to me and I have not been able to put it down. I am so loving this book.

In between that I also picked up another guilty pleasure author, Zena Wynn. She is an author of those books that you think – this is really light reading but you cant resist. Fiction Vixen did rave about her True Mate series and I only meant to just read the first few pages and before I knew it – I was three books deep.. Guilty Pleasures, can’t resist them.

Two more weeks to go and then the boys are officially on holidays. As you know they have plans so my holiday schedule is more or less tied to all these summer school programs that they are doing.

However – at the end of the summer we are going to the Northampton Balloon Festival – I am literally petrified of heights but I do go to this event every year and I am planning to pull up my big girl socks up this year and go into one of the balloons. They are having a tethered Moon Glow event this year..

The balloons won't actually come off the ground as I understand, they will light them and they will kinda just have them hovering above the ground – I think I can manage that!, let me say that again - I know I can manage that!, still not convince – I will manage that.

If you don't hear from me by the end of the summer – send out air traffic controller, I’ll probably be floating somewhere over France… with my luck the rope will some how get loose and before they know it the balloon will be miles away with  a wind of epic proportions blowing me higher and faster away…

On second thoughts –I'll just pull down those big girl sock… LOL.

Any plans for the summer, or are you doing it now. Share.

Here are some pretty balloon pic for you..

Enjoy the weeks peeps…

Until next week – cheers

What is the Sunday Salon? Imagine some university library's vast reading room. It's filled with people--students and faculty and strangers who've wandered in. They're seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them, and they're all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go. Later they'll mill around the open dictionaries and compare their thoughts on the afternoon's literary intake....
That's what happens at the Sunday Salon, except it's all virtual. Every Sunday the bloggers participating in that week's Salon get together--at their separate desks, in their own particular time zones--and read. And blog about their reading. And comment on one another's blogs. Think of it as an informal, weekly, mini read-a-thon, an excuse to put aside one's earthly responsibilities and fall into a good book

It must be unbearable over there, I mean it's really hot here, for Finland but we make it, but there, yikes.

And of course I am sick with the flu, not that many chances to swim here and I am missing them

Here's hoping the heat breaks soon!!!

I saw the balloons launching one morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico, once. Wow. Gorgeous.

I scanned your post before reading it and saw Zena Wynn was ready to start gushing about her series then I saw my name and realized I've already brought you over to the True Mates side LOL. One of my fav guilty pleasures for sure. :)

It's really awful about the heat there. I grew up in an area where the temperatures are pretty extreme in summer but now live in a very mile climate. Whenever I visit my mom in summer it kills me because I'm not used to that kind of weather anymore. Hope things cool down for you soon.

@FV

I bow to peer pressure just as easily as the next sucker...

I can't believe I have read three books already and I only meant to read the first few pages to get a feel of the book..

Guilty pleasure - much..

I am also from a country where it's easily 90 degrees in the shades, but the humidity along with the heat is just too much...

True Mates - sounds like my kind of series. From the looks of the cover I guess it's available at Samhain. Must have a look at the author's site.
Don't mention the heat! They are forecasting a cooler Tuesday, with cool meaning 30 degrees. Terrible, I'm like a zombie.

Ah, I could have sworn it was Samhain. OK, found it. Sounds interesting...I'll give it a try.
