Seeking Redemption Bk 1-2 © Cameron Dane

Cameron Dane - Seeking Redemption 1 – Aidan & Ethan

Redemption, Maine. Never had the name of a town been more apt or mocked a person more.

Aidan Morgan made many mistakes in his young life, but moving to Redemption gave him a chance to wash away his poor choices and repair his relationship with his siblings.

Ethan Ashworth had the blond good looks of a hometown football star, but the picture didn’t match the heart and mind of the young man living inside.

The new kid in town with a history of getting into trouble and an unlikely geek don't often make a match, but a unique friendship forms. With one searing kiss on graduation day, promises of a future are made. One day later Aidan is gone, and Ethan’s heart is left broken.

Redemption, Maine. Never had the name of a town been more apt or mocked a person more … twice.

Thirteen years ago Aidan disappeared in the dead of night, but he is home now. Aidan has come home to take the job of chief of the fire department and to reconnect with his brother and sister. He wants Ethan back too. Unable to forget their kiss, Aidan wants to explain why he went away, and he wants a second chance to win Ethan’s heart.

Too bad for Aidan, Ethan isn’t so quick to forgive and forget. He dealt with a life-changing crisis after Aidan went away. His hurt and anger at how Aidan left him alone has resurfaced, bringing the controlled man back to life. Ethan will listen to Aidan’s reasons for leaving when he’s damn good and ready … and not a minute before.

Redemption, Maine. A place for second chances. Will the town--and Ethan Ashworth--give Aidan Morgan another shot to get it right

My thought

Ms Dane is an author I have been hearing so much good things about and after reading three of her books for the read-a-thon a few months ago – I pick up the Seeking Redemption series after reading some good thing about it.

Right from the outset I thought the blurb on AIDAN AND ETHAN was too long and to be honest the story does not veer far from it. Small town scenario about two boys in the first stage of first crush/love that went so wrong. One stayed behind and did good only to have first love return and upset the apple cart.

I was introduced to some sweet characters, but I am not a fan of the drawn out will he/won’t he sort of plotline so there was nothing earth shaking that jumped out at me in regards to the romance between Aidan and Ethan.

As a first book, I enjoyed the build up on the town of Redemption and of course I got to see some great support cast who brought with them a whole load of angst, I thought Ms. Dane spun magic around some of them and if truth be told I was more interested  in the sub plots more than the relationship between Aidan and Ethan

A lot of predictables are in this one, but what worked, worked well and it left me needing to know what happened next.

See what Eyre said

[..] if you like your romance/erotica without a lot of angst, you may not like this book. There are times when I want a light-hearted read; other times, I need the catharsis from overcoming conflict/tragedy. I definitely got the latter from this story. © A Reader’s Journey

Cameron Dane - Seeking Redemption 2 – Devlin & Garrick

Devlin Morgan and Gradyn Connell have one thing on their minds when they meet in a bar one Friday night in San Francisco. One good, hard fuck.

After the hell he’s been through, Gradyn knows the young man sitting at the end of the bar--with his sweet nervousness and beautiful face--is just what he needs. And Gradyn has absolutely no problem getting up to say hello.

Devlin knows inviting muscle-bound, tattooed Gradyn to his motel room is the riskiest thing he’s ever done, but there’s something in the man’s warm green eyes that tells Devlin everything will be all right.

One explosive encounter in Devlin’s motel room is the plan. Only, it turns out one hot fuck isn’t enough for either man. Dinner afterward leads to another round in bed, and what follows is a weekend together that stirs more emotions than either Devlin or Gradyn ever expected to feel.

Fast forward five years. Devlin has never forgotten Gradyn but he has moved on with his life. That is, until he walks into his sister’s workplace and comes face to face with the man from his wild weekend in San Francisco.

Except, this man is calling himself Garrick Langley. This man is a shell of the man Devlin remembers and hardly looks like the same person. And the biggest kick in Devlin’s gut? This Garrick Langley pretends he doesn’t know Devlin at all.

No. Fucking. Way.

Devlin doesn’t care what this man looks like or that he has a new name. Garrick Langley is Gradyn Connell, and they both know it. Devlin is a lot more secure in his own skin now, and he wants answers. This Garrick had better look out because Devlin won’t stop until he uncovers every one of Gradyn’s secrets.

My thoughts

DEVLIN AND GARRICK is the second book in the Seeking Redemption series and I actually liked this book a bit more than the first, mainly because of the characters. I do like the direct approach in people and characters I meet in books I tend to hold to the same standard, so these very brash and sometimes intrusive people I met here worked for me .

When Devlin dream man turns up in Redemption under another name and looking totally different – he was not willing to accept him pretending that he didn’t know him. Feeling a lot put out he does the next best thing - he goes after his man with everything he had. Garrick is not the man that Devlin met many years ago however  – he is now a cagier man, a man who watches shadows and trust no one, even if that person is the one who means everything to him.

Ms. Dane does not hesitate in this second book, with some nicely crafted scenes of past and present she brings together two people who are destined to be together. Devlin is one of the good guys who only wants the man he met years ago – who had just fell off the radar. Garrick on the other hand is caught in that in-between place, he wants the one thing he knows he cannot have yet he is willing to hope he can have it all.

I like Devlin along with his sister and brother and since the first book the siblings are closer than ever after years apart,  and as such they do not miss a chance to get into each others business. I really liked that aspect of this book.

Not only was this book about Devlin getting his man -  but with some short crisp scenes Ms Dane build up some tension around Garrick’s stay in redemption with a nice little mystery. For me this could have done with a bit more page time and a lot more detail added into the mix. If felt stilted and ultimately not believable.

Any book with kids as well more often than not is winner with me and the kids in this one were really neat.

Of the three siblings there is the sister left to get her story and if I am following the plotline correctly – her one is already known. Now for Ms. Dane to lay on the fireworks of how they will get together.

See what Eyre said

This story had everything that I have come to expect from Dane. The characters are sexy and lovable. The sex scenes are smoking hot. The angst is often palpable, and it is balanced with an endearing sweetness. © A Reader’s Journey

Yeah, Eyre had me at "smoking hot sex scenes" - I don't think I've read this author before I'll have to add to TBR pile.

E.H., great reviews! I love seeing how the books I've read affect different readers. You're right about the predictability. It's definitely there, but I like her characters so much that I can forgive that. As you said, what works, works well.

BTW, thanks for the mentions!

I've only read 1 book by the author (Finding Home), and really liked her writing style a lot, though was very unhappy with the way that book ended.

These look really good, though, and the set up to the 1st one is one of my favorite tropes.

Putting them on the tbb list… :-)

Oh! And, I totally dig the angst. ;-)
