Review - Only Forever Series © Shawn Lane

I had the pleasure of going through the remaining three of Shawn Lanes books in the Only Forever series, I say pleasure because I am always left with a smile and a yearning to go do a re-read of some of my favourite sure thing whenever I readimage Ms Lanes work.

The first book ONLY IN HIS DREAMS is review HERE.

From the first book the framework of who is the next in line for cupid arrow is more or less known so it was just to find out how much drama Ms Lane tosses at them and how they find their way to each other.

Only For Him Bk2 by Shawn Lane
Barnaby Lassiter has had a thing for attorney Nathan Llewellyn since he began working at the law firm of Anderson, Llewellyn, and Stevens as an administrative assistant. Too bad conservative Nathan doesn’t seem to know the flamboyant Barnaby is alive.

But a chance to take care of Nathan when he is ill leads to a date, and then so much more. Nathan continues to have doubts. Barnaby is the hottest man he’s ever known, but their differences worry him. He’s seen too many relationships that didn’t make it.

All of Nathan’s fears are realized when he witnesses the popular, too-appealing Barnaby in action at a club. When Nathan thinks their differences are too much to overcome after all and breaks off their relationship, Barnaby is left with a broken heart and an uncertain future.

And Nathan’s left wondering if he’s just made the biggest mistake of his life by letting Barnaby go...

My Thought

ONLY FOR HIM is Nathan’s and Barnaby's story and the blurb does tells a good portion of the story so I wont repeat that much.

Barnaby is Nathans assistant or at least that’s what Barnaby lets Nathan think he is – when Nathan goes down ill Barnaby makes himself available to see him through this period of his life.

One thing leads to another and both men finally gets a chance to be in the same room long enough to express an interest in each other and act on it. The book moves as expected – they hook up and with little angst there are few moments of heartache and near heartbreak.

I do like Barnaby alot – he is classic Lane product. Cute, bouncy, sharp as a tack and more or less always seem to be going on reserve energy. He does make me laugh and he has most certainly join the gangs of boys that Lane has given me to love.

Nathan I was wasn’t so hot for, although he was a good match for Barnaby and I can actually see the bit and piece of who they are clicking together to make a good match, my problem with Nathan stems from the old classic saying “still waters run deep”, he had a rather short fuse when it comes to  that old green eyed monster called jealousy.

Despite that ONLY FOR HIM was a sweet read with some rather touching sibling bonding moment which I loved.  I found I liked the Lawyer offices that most of the hijinks in this book takes place in and  it was also good to see Travis and Darrell from ONLY IN HIS DREAMS again.

Only His Heart Bk 3 by Shawn Lane
Calvin Lassiter is an emergency room doctor who buries himself in his high-stress job. He has no time for a relationship and most definitely is not interested in the new emergency room nurse, Matt Walton. Matt is exactly what Calvin doesn't want—an eyeliner-wearing bad boy who rides a motorcycle.

Matt, however, is intrigued by the stuffy, too-beautiful-for-words doctor, but the man is as cold as ice. Yet Matt's fellow nurses bet him he can't melt Dr. Lassiter and get him into bed.

Too fascinated by Calvin not to try, Matt succeeds in breaking the doctor's hard exterior. But as their relationship turns serious, the possibility hangs over Matt's head that his co-workers will tell his sexy lover the truth and end his dreams of winning Calvin's heart forever.

My thoughts

This is the third book in the series and Calvin Lassiter gets his shot at love in this one. Calvin is Barnaby’s brother and just for the fact that he was there for his brother when he needed him – he is automatically a good guy in my book. I love sibling relationships that seems one thing on the outside but deep down each sibling would do anything and everything in their power to make the other happy.

Calvin being a doctor, his days more are less revolves around his job, where he is not liked very much – if at all to be honest. When new male nurse Matt takes an interest in him and is persistent with his interest, things heats up and a whole lot happens really fast after that.

There was a bit of predictable event in this one where I practically saw the bells tolling before it happened and that did take away some of the glow of this book for me.

What I liked however was Matt and his consistency in his interest in Calvin. Despite Calvin less than welcoming attitude I thought Matt was a great protag, not over the top and had a pretty decent work ethic. I also loved the fact that he was not opposed to opening up himself and bearing it all for Calvin to see that he was serious about him – he didn’t try to play any games, sweet guy.

I think they more than the other have some work to do on themselves and their relationship in order to make it work, but I am rooting for them.

His One And Only Bk4 by Shawn Lane
The moment former art teacher Drew Richards spots gorgeous African-American lawyer Mark Stevens at a party, he is intrigued. Though rebuffed at first, a persistent Drew convinces Mark they can be friends at least.

After the death of his partner, Mark buried himself in work, a habit he can’t seem to break...until he meets Drew. The short, dark-haired Drew is not Mark’s usual sort, but he finds the man way too appealing, and before he knows it, he and Drew become more than friends.

Since Mark’s been out of the dating scene for a long while, he can’t help but make a few missteps in their growing relationship. But Drew is looking for a serious commitment. Can he become Mark’s one and only?

My thoughts

This is probably the quickest and the least dramatic of the books in the series. I met Drew in the previous book and I liked him from the moment he picked himself up and introduced himself to Mark at a party.

That takes some kinda special guy.

Mark is a workaholic and whether it was the “if you do or if you don't” attitude of Drew or just plain natural law of attraction at work, he opts out of his normal workaholic routine and starts a once a week coffee thing with Drew. I thought that was so cute and really made a difference to how I saw Mark .

Drew could hold his own and never backed down from Mark, even when Mark under estimated his drive and his career choice – I loved that.

Their relationship was more or less a done deal from the moment you meet them, the other things that made this book for me – was Drew’s parent – I like how they gave him his space but all the while letting him know that he was loved. Then there was brotherly love at work in the office, with Mark two partners and friends taking an interest and not missing a trick by teasing him as well about his love life – and let me not forget the good old rumour mill that is called Barnaby, he was a treat in this one.

Bottom Line.

It is no secret I am a huge fan of Ms. Lane’s work – I love the characters that she introduces me to and I never really know where she is going to toss in that little bit of angst in each books – so always something to look forward to.

The premise of this series grabbed me from the moment she featured it on her blog, it meant a new series first and foremost, secondly  I was eager to see how she was going to mix it up with the cast that she was presenting to us. Barnaby was an instant hit, toss in the sibling hit and miss moments and he is definately one of the highlight of the series for me.

I had issues with Nathan and Calvin the most in this series, Nathan for the fact that jealousy is not an emotion that holds water with me when you are trying to build a relationship – it’s ugly and it only causes hurt all round, and he was and it came out of nowhere and surprised the hell out of me. Calvin I thought for his standoffish attitude rolled over too quickly when he met Matt, while I wanted to slap him and tell him take it one step at a time, I really couldn’t hate him – he was Barnaby’s brother and had an automatic in with me.

At the end of the last book – there are a few sweet scenes that showed the entire group together and it was nice to see how they all fitted together.

While not my favourite series by Miss Lane, There is enough in each book as well as the fun cast she has created to make this series definately worth the time.

P.S. None of these books can be read on there own – Must be read as  apart of the series.

I bought the last books of this series a few days ago so I can read them all four in a row. I really look forward to that. Like you I'm a big fan of this author!

Hope the heat broke at your side of the pond too, hon. At our side the temperature dropped at least 10 degrees after some rain and thunder this afternoon! Yay! :D

I enjoyed this series a lot as well. Not sure which was my favourite although I too liked Barnaby a lot. They all had their good points though. :-)

I loved this series! Before reading Calvin's book, I wasn't sure that I was going to like him, but Shawn made him into a guy whom I'd love to know. I want a Matt of my own.

@Eyre..

That's one of the nicer part ofthis series - the people you love or hate in one book - you end up having a change of heart in the next book..

I love Calvin for his attitude and generosity with Barnaby, but I think Matt is definately the tops in that relationship..

I want a Matt of my own...

You never know - Shawn might just let us see them all again...
