Can a battered dragon warrior overcome past mistakes? After an attack by dark wraiths, exiled guardian Allauria Grace, treks up a mountain in the middle of a snowstorm to locate her dragon. Once there, she finds a reluctant Callum McDrakken. In fact, he wants nothing to do with her and refused to let her in his haven. They battle through memories of a tangled past and a devastating injury that left Callum unable to transform into his dragon form. With the looming threat of wraiths and the possibility of Allauria becoming one herself, they wonder if there is still a chance for this dragon to have his mate. Contains M/F sex with steamy against-the-wall shower scene. Add in a fiery shape-shifting dragon warrior for fun.

My Thoughts

DRAGON’S GRACE is one of those book that I had to step back from once I read it to settle my thoughts, why - because on the whole the story is really just a slice of an event that happens in the life of Callum and Allauria rather than a full feature story.

The book starts with Allauria being chased and the only place and person that she can think of in her greatest hour of need is Callum the dragon warrior who had exiled himself on a mountain.

When Callum does not welcome her with open arms it’s not really a surprise, because she knows and accepts her part in the chain of events that leads to him being bitter and alone on a mountain. However Callum is more than bitter he is down right hostile and wants nothing to do with Allauria .

“Something” is following Allauria and they both have very limited time to get a handle on why a guardian is being hunted, and if there is one thing that Callum is, it’s loyal to his people.

This was a quick read but lacking in so many areas, firstly as I mentioned before this isn’t a complete story just a slice of life and as such I missed the character development,  I got frustrated with the alluded to evils and without any decent amount of info on the rift between Allauria and Callum I could not connect, root for or empathise with them.

The sex scenes by themselves were OK, but again I was not invested in it going further than a quick thing up against a bathroom wall – Why, because I was just dropped into these peoples life's and I was not feeling the love between them..

I read the story because I liked the plot concept. The mountain chase and the description of the mountain scenes were well done in my opinion, another area of this book that worked for me is the little glimpse of unrest from Allauria’s and Callum’s past – it really made me want to know more about this world, what these people could do and why they were being hunted.

I will have to follow up on this author to see if she follows up with further story of this world.

Battered Not Broken

Gillian Locke has been beaten, battered, and bruised, but her ex-boyfriend still hasn't managed to break her. When she left Kyle for the last time, she knew the only way she'd ever be back in his grasp is over her dead body. When her car breaks down at the top of a mountain in the middle of a snowstorm, she thinks nature will take care of her death for him. On the run, the last thing she expects is to be offered shelter by three gorgeous men who can't seem to get enough of her. The Bearclaw brothers are descendants of the ancient Anikota tribe of Indians. Their beast spirit and blessing from the Maker allows them the ability to sense the one who would complete their soul. Being triplets, they always expected their mate to be one woman they'd share. With the Maker's blessing, they'll be able to ease past Gillian's defenses before her past threatens to end their future

My Thoughts

Two things attracted me to this book, the cover and the fact that this was another “goldilocks and the three bears” sort of story and I am always eager to see how authors put their own spin on this aged plot.

Despite the cover image this is a multiple ménage book and a quick romp that was over before it made an impact. Gillian is in need of shelter and comes upon the expected empty cabin in the woods with three bedrooms…

Need I go any further… it reads like the tale up to a certain point.

The three men in question are bear shifters and other than some very well flesh out personality traits, they were average guys, they care for the environment, had little to do with the outside world and were very close to their parents.

The crust of this book revolved around the hastily developed relationship between these four. I say hasty because within a few hours they were getting their groove on and before long the language is such, it’s as if there being together was a done deal minus one big secret..

If you don’t particularly like light reading material give it a miss as you will have multiple issues with this one, for me this was a quick break and sometimes I just need that. I did like the remote setting and the fact that the brother’s personality were so different to the point of knowing who would getting shifty about the dirty floor mat.

BATTERED NOT BROKEN had some legs, as in it had moments of hilarity, some great scenes showing the dynamics between the brothers and just enough info about the Anikota tribe of Indians to make me really curious.

Like the cover on the first, so that would be the one that could tempt me

Character development is very important for me. If it's lacking I usually have trouble staying interested in the story. :(

I agree - even with the little burst of magic about the book - I still missed not knowing more about the players.
