Review - The Lost Shifter Series © Stephani Hecht

Primal Passions-Book 1

Jacyn had always considered himself a pretty normal guy. Little did he know that he couldn’t be more wrong. Attacked by a group of gunmen, he suddenly finds himself shot at, kidnapped and chained to a wall. Not exactly the kind of day a normal guy has. All he knows is that all of it is somehow connected to his birth family. Rescued by a tall dangerous looking stranger who claims to have been sent by his long-lost family, Jacyn doesn’t know whether to run with him or away from him. Especially when the stranger claims to be able to shift into a jaguar.

The last thing Logan wants is to be rounding up some stray jaguar shifter, but he has never refused an order. Even as he tells himself the mission will be a snap, he finds himself having to launch a one-cat rescue party when Jacyn gets himself captured by their enemy.

As the two males run for their lives, they find that not only are they having to battle their enemy, but they are also fighting a growing attraction to each other. Passion is the last thing they should be thinking about, however. Because if they don’t keep their attention focused on the enemy, they could very well pay the ultimate price.

A Feral Christmas-Book 2

Jaguar shifter, Brent, is on the most important mission of his life, to find his missing brothers. Separated years ago when  their family home was attacked by the Ravens, Brent has never forgotten his lost siblings and will do anything to bring them back home. Then he finds out that one man holds the key to their location, a hawk shifter named, Daniel.

Daniel has been on the run from the Ravens ever since they nearly eradicated all of his kind. Hiding by living as a human, the last thing he wants is to be sucked back into the shifter world. Then he wakes up to find a jaguar shifter in his bedroom, demanding his help. Even though he wants to refuse, Daniel takes one look at the desperation in Brent’s eyes and knows he has to help.

Even the smallest child knows that cats and birds don’t mix. It still doesn’t stop the two men’s growing attraction to each other. Even as they fight new and old enemies, their feelings of love grow. Will they be able to overcome a lifetime’s worth of hatred and prejudice to be together? Or will they have the pay the ultimate price for love?

Savage Awakenings-Book 3

An outcast among his own kind, Rat has always withdrawn from others and lived life by his own rules. Rejected and shunned so many times, he’s resigned to the fact that he’ll always be alone and almost convinces himself that he’s happier that way. That all changes in one instant when he receives a call from a lost shifter named Keegan. Scared and on the run from Ravens, Keegan is in hiding and Rat knows if doesn’t go rescue the man, he’ll be dead within hours.

What Rat doesn’t expect though is to fall instantly in lust with the lost shifter as soon as they finally meet. That’s the last thing either one of them needs or wants though. Not only is Keegan still adjusting to the fact he’s a shifter, but there’s also the fact he’s the feline leader’s younger brother. Which means the man is off limits. But as they face more danger and get closer, Rat knows he’s powerless to fight his growing attraction to Keegan. Will Rat finally be able to go of his past to embrace a future with his new lover, or will he forever be destined to live life alone?

My Thoughts

I just had a peek at Ms. Hecht site and realise that the release of the next book in THE LOST SHIFTER series is almost upon us and I haven’t even made a mention of reading the books on my blog.

The lost shifter series surrounds a group of were, Jaguar shifters to be more specific who are looking for their lost littermates, who went missing as children more than a decade ago. There are three books in the series so far and as each book progresses it delves a little more into what happened to the children when they went missing and where they might be now.

Book one PRIMAL PASSION was a great intro book. It started off with some fast paced action scenes and lots of threats and has a cloak and dagger feel to it. Why because  Logan (who is like the shifter assassin) is on recon to scout out the area and keep an eye on Jacyn, one of the the lost kids, adult now and report back as necessary

Things goes inky quite quickly and before long Jacyn who has no idea why he is being hunted by no less than Ravens is captured and has to be rescued by Logan. Let me say right now, there is a lot of predictables to this series – but I had no problem with that and was only wanting to see how rocky Ms. Hecht would make the path to togetherness for them.

In the end the romance itself was rather lightweight for me, but I was loving the characters I met along the way. There was Jacyn brothers and sister who just happen to be the head honcho of the Jaguar shifter and Rat who was the techno geek of the place – I was hooked.

Really good description of the facilities and given and the whole plot has a fantasy feel to it but I was good with that as well. I must say I liked Ms. Hecht voice and style in this book, it was light and her style was not wordy or shrouded over with any dark elements that this type of plot normally has attached to it.

I could not open FERAL CHRISTMAS fast enough, because that’s what shifter books does for me – make me want more and with the bonus info that the shifters were a secret arm of the government/military the plot only thickens and I was certainly wanting more.

This book is Brent’s story. Brent is the comic relief of the outfit and he can be a little hard to stomach because of his too laid back and too comical mannerism. Taking onboard a mission on his own to find the one person who knows exactly what happened to the lost children as well as the only person who might know where to get a full list of the children that went missing, Brent brings the enemy right to the door steps of Daniel.

Daniel is a Hawk shifter who has not shifted in years and keeps a low profile and outside of the shifter world to be honest. Morals plays a big part in Daniel’s life and he knows he has to help Brent, even if he is pissed off at the man himself.

As expected an attraction forms between the two and some rather salacious drama happens due to the bossy attitude of Brent’s brother.

I know I am being a bit cagey with the detail – but it is a rather short book and I would be giving away the whole plot if I go into further detail.

Two things though, The Ravens, who are a race of really large Raven shifters are sworn enemies of all other shifters as it would seem are getting just as close as the team are at getting to the lost children. And a new shifter set is added to the mix, which is a a good thing – but it does give rise to the fact that the fur will start to fly - because.

Cat and birds – do not mix well.

The good thing about letting a series pile up or finding a series after release is that you don't have to wait until the next one is released, if you time it right.  I was soon nose deep into SAVAGE AWAKENINGS – and if there was one book I was wanting to read, it would be this one - because it was Rat’s story.

Rat is a saint and a sinner all rolled into one, depending on who you ask. For me, he was the best thing in this series, Rat is the techy of the outfit and dresses like a Goth and has a mouth on him that argues with just about everyone and is as filthy as a sailor on shore leave.

Obviously Rat has a history and it’s not pretty, he naturally covers it up with the dark clothing and the over the top attitude. Another thing about Rat is that he is a slut, yup if it moves he will bed it and not too discreet about it as well, if all the snickering is anything to by.

When Rat literally has to go and get one of the found shifter, he does not hesitate – he finds his man, does what he needs to do to stay alive and in between falls tip over canister for the guy. Said guy just happen to be Keegan, younger brother to the leader of the jaguar shifter and is as brainy as they come.

Let’s me just say – so many things comes into play in this book, trust, showing one’s true colours and standing up for what you not only believe in but want. Rat’s history is also explored and it is heartbreaking – but he got his man so I was happy for him all round.

The salacious drama continuous in this book and I expects it will be a constant part of future books and to be totally honest I love it – I love the dirt of who did who and when who did who..

Some discord is afoot in this book however, because someone seems to be playing both sides of the fence and that cannot spell anything good for the team. They need to find that person now, or not only is the lost shifter children life at stake but their very own survival might be under threat.

Next book up in the series
