Weekly Geek – Literary Work as Body Art!!!!

Click me
Many lovers of books and tattoos have combined the two. In my opinion, there is a magic in being able to carry your favorite quote with you wherever you go. I'm far from being the only one who feels this way. LiveJournal has a group called Bookworms with Ink in which people share their literary tattoos and ask for advice before getting one.
And so I ask:

  • Do you have a literary tattoo? Please share it with us and tell us why you chose it.
  • Do you have any ideas for future literary tattoos? Are there any quotes that you might one day want to have printed on you? (No plans on ever getting a tattoo? Just let us know what you would get if you were to ever get a tattoo!)
  • How do you think the author feels about having their work permanently inked on a fan's body?

Want to see more literary tattoos? Feel free to check out or participate in Tattoo Tuesdays!

My thoughts

This weeks Weekly Geeks is one I am going with to see what readers of my blog think… But as for me “If we were meant to have tattoos on your bodies , we would have been born with them” – that said  I take my hat off to those brave enough to have it done…

I get cut just looking at a knife – so a needle would just finish me off…

But let me know what you think  - Would you get a Literary tattoo and if so what?.

If no – Why?

I love the quote from the Little Prince! One of my friends in college had the "cutaway" of the boa constrictor after swallowing the elephant.

I have one tattoo, on my upper left arm.

I actually have plans to get a second tattoo on the other side - something with a black cat and some books. :)

I have no tattoos and will probably never be brave enough to get one! I do like to admire them, tho'.

The literary connection is kind of cool, although I'm not sure a whole sleeve of Alice in Wonderland a la Disney is my cup of tea :)

I like yours, Chris!

Thanks, Wren!

It's nowhere near as bad to get one as I feared. Mostly it just tickled. Although the tattoo artists did note that I have a high pain tolerance - apparently that's not actually a good thing from the artist's perspective because I was too wiggly ("Can I see? What're you doing now?").

I have two tattoos, one is my avatar which is on my back, this one is on my left ankle. I'd like to get swirly design all over my back but we'll see.

I can't think of any quote I would want on my body forever. Books I loved when I was 20 I can't imagine having something from now. And now I find quotes here and there interesting but not enough to permanently have it on me.

Hi E.H.,

I've thought about getting tattooed for years, but haven't been able to decide on what I'd get or where. One thought that keeps coming to me is having the titles of my books circling my upper arm. You know, fancy script, each one perhaps a different color. I may still do it. But, then I have to wonder what the mom in law would say. LOL

Awesome post E.H.

Chris, I really like your tats!

Hugs

I love tattoos! I follow one literary tattoo site (can't remember the name of it now) and think they're great. I have one tattoo (as long as we're sharing) and have been thinking about getting a fleur-de-lis as my 2nd but started thinking about getting something bookish to go with it but am not sure what yet.

Jude: I think your idea sounds great. As for the MIL - :-P She doesn't have to look at it. As long as you like it that's all that counts.

I love to travel and I've considered getting a small flag of each country I've visited, I just don't know were it would work well.

I think tattoos are beautiful! But I'm too much of a chicken to get one. Plus I'm so wishy-washy, I don't think I could come up with something that I wouldn't change mind on later after I got the tattoo.

EH: It didn't hurt! I swear!

Erotic Horizon on 21 March 2010 at 22:15 said...

@Wren ..

I am in that camp with you Wren - not brave here at all...

Those full limb or full body art are scary much - but I do like the concept of literary body art.

@Chris

I still *shudder***... you are brave woman...

@Tam..

Cute - I love the flourishes - and the colour is quite rich...

Do you have to recolour after a couple of years...

I agree - not sure if what I loved 20 yrs ago would be my mantra now...

@Jude..

I know you love your work - but good god woman - titles on your arm...

I think hubs would have a say about that even before MIL....

As Tam said - as long as you like it thats all that matters..

Erotic Horizon on 21 March 2010 at 22:24 said...

@Patti..

Yes dear as long as we are sharing - tell us your secrets....

I love the artwork - when I was younger, that was all the rage...

Lots of cool idea for your second one...

You people are so brave... I love the fleur-de-lis idea...

@Donna...

But I'm too much of a chicken to get one

Join the club hon - all the bravehearts are sporting their tattoos...

I loved to see all the tattoos, girls. And I admire you for it, but I'm with EH! I'm too chicken to get one myself. I love them though. I wouldn't know about the literary ones. The quotes I liked years ago changed, and probably in a few years others will be my favorites. I would go for a simple symbolic or tribal tat :)

Erotic Horizon on 21 March 2010 at 22:37 said...

@Janna.

Another one for the no-tattoo club...

I as well loved looking at it - especially Tam's flourish...

ErotRomReader (Janna) on 21 March 2010 at 23:34 said...

Yeah, that one was pretty! But the others as well. On a man I like the tribal or black tattoos :)

Rikki on 22 March 2010 at 06:29 said...

I probably wouldn't get one, but simply because I couldn't decided on what to get. Other than that I love tattoos.

Erotic Horizon on 22 March 2010 at 10:07 said...

@Janna..

I have to agree with you there - Some of those tribal tattoos are so sexy...

I saw one the other day with a guy on a bike with pant low - yummy....

Yup works for me...

@Rikki..

Hey you - hope things are good...

I do see that trend here - with the literary phrases... and I would agree as well, becasue what I liked at 18, I most certainly dont now...
