Old Blurb

Maybelline "May" Davenport wants a few things in her life: to move up at work after she obtained her college degree, and to find a man who could sweep her off of her feet like the heroes in her erotic romance novels. She's sure she won't find that while working for a man she calls "the totem pole with style" even though she finds him attractive. Winston Biggers thinks he wants a dominant type of woman in his life. And although she doesn't seem the type,

Win can't stop thinking about May, his administrative assistant. But he can't let her go. Not just yet. So he hides her newly-acquired degree to keep her as his assistant. But there are other important aspects about his life that he's hiding. When the truth comes out, will it be too much for May to take? Or will staying with this man make her Win Bigg?

Blurb: Newly revised edition!

Winston Biggers wanted a woman he couldn't control, nothing like his secretary. May Davenport thought that commanding alpha heroes only existed in her steamy romance novels, the opposite of her uptight boss. But when fate brings these two together, they learn that truth is kinkier than fiction.

Would it be possible to have sex on that thing?
May Davenport licked her lips as she stared at the waist-high laser fax-copier-printer monstrosity, rumored to have been an accomplice in an office tryst. Who knew Hewlett-Packard could be an aphrodisiac, she thought.
Damn, she needed to get a life and get laid if thoughts of sex in the office consumed her time. And she needed to stop reading those damn erotica novels.

Reading them had her believing that the situations contained in them could be possible. Take-charge hunks. Hot, sweaty public sex. Happily ever after. Not in this office building, and not with anyone working here.
May cocked her head as she stared at the machine, as though willing it to share its secrets. Who was on top? Did anything break in the process? If they left the lid open, did it get any good pictures?

The rumor running rampant at Crystal Industries would have the entire twenty-five floors believing that such an act would not only be plausible, but indeed had happened between a junior associate who worked on the second floor and a female executive from the seventeenth floor who was not known to fraternize with anyone below her floor.

Stupid people. Why in the world would they risk their careers for the sake of hot sex? Sure, that kind of arrangement worked out in romance novels. Everything always worked out in those things. But this was real life. And real life had a way of kicking people in their asses.

May could kind of see the lure. The executive had power and the junior guy had hunger, sexual or otherwise, at least that was how another executive assistant from that floor had described the two to May during a good gossip session in the bathroom.

Damn, she needed to get a life.

What she really wanted to know was what possessed two people to throw caution to the wind and be so reckless as to risk getting caught going against Company Policy No-No Number Two. According to the Crystal Industries’ Employee Handbook, the Number One rule involved giving up stock trading tips. Priorities. How fitting that the company would care more about its bottom line than the interactions of their employees.

She chuckled to herself, sitting at her desk, which faced the main door. She had her back to her boss’s office. The bastard wanted to be sure he could look over her shoulder at a moment’s notice to make sure she didn’t pass time surfing the Internet or worse, looking for a better job.

May Davenport is a graduate, she has a degree to prove it and yet she is nothing more than a glorified secretary, irrespective of the title that they gave her job. Not only was she not satisfied with her job but she is just about a minute way from giving her boss the finger.

Winston Biggers could not be a bigger pain in the ass even if he tried and May so wanted to cut him down to size if her fantasies of the man was anything to go by. Wishful thinking on her part though, as she is sure finding a man who can not only take but give back as good as he gets was a myth.

May is realistic anyhow and know that as much as her blood boils about her situation – she needed money, as her bills aren’t going away and she wants the finer things of life. Thanks to a friend she may just have found a way to make a little extra money on the side – and what a side line it is, you never know who you will meet.

Winston Biggers is a rising star in the company that they both work for. On a direct path for the head position, he works all sort of ungodly hours and demands and expects alot from those around him. The only bright spot in Winston day is his secretary, but by how he treats her you could never tell. Winston has a plan however and May factors in it in a big way, and he aims to make it a reality.

Win is however tired of being the exalted one and is only going through the motions and needs more or at the least something or somewhere to unwind from the stress of it all. Hearing about somewhere that is not only a bit edgy but definitely different he makes a snap decision base on just one look at one of the ladies of the night.

CORPORATE SEDUCTION is a book with a difference, it kept surprising me at every turn. This book started off like the classic Harlequin love story, secretary wanting to better herself and having the hots for the boss and as such I was expecting it to flow along that line. Ms. Midway however has a catalogue of surprises for me.

The protags were my first surprise, May was not the docile little gem on the front desk, she was good at her job, knew it and was not afraid to sass just about everyone who crosses her path. She had a wonderful sense of humour that had me breaking out into a smile at the most inopportune time. What I love most about her however was that she was not afraid to tackle challenges head on.

Win took a little bit of time for me to warm up to, because he was the ultimate business man, always doing the right thing and his foot in the right place at the right time – and not an once of flexibility to him. Win however had a secret and after a chance encounter he makes the decision to explore a part of his nature that he has kept under wraps for more years than he care to remember.

This is where the book gets really intense, Ms. Midway gave these two people what they think they want and yet it was still not enough for them. BDSM as I have always said can be beautiful in the right authors hand and like pulling teeth in another – I loved Ms. Midway approach to it.

This was not hardcore stuff, but it was like a recipe listing with how the author detailed every step, every slap and every emotion that the protags experienced. There was a nice little twist with how both Win and May approach this side of their sexuality which I found quite ironic.

I thought the mix bag of support cast carried quite bit of this book – which was good, because outside of the relationship that Win and May was trying to sort out, there were a few sub plots going on and outside of one which got very ridiculous at the end I enjoyed all the book had to offer.

From the publishers website this edition of CORPORATE SEDUCTION is a revised edition and as such there are not only new material here but a new cover has also been commissioned as well as a very “mini” blurb. If you are used to Ms. Midway style of writing you will know she is not a middle of the road writer, it’s all or nothing and it is reflected in this book. Win and May are winners with me and I had fun with the BDSM that Ms. Midway introduced in this book.

I am hoping Corporate Desires the second book in this series works just as well for me..

I read and enjoyed this book when it was first released (obviously since revised), but at a glance it didn't seem different enough to buy a second time, especially since my reading choices have altered slightly since then. Anyway, great review EH

Thank you so much for reviewing my book. I hope you dig the sequel, CORPORATE DESIRES. And eventually CORPORATE NEEDS will be released, which will finish off the trilogy.
