Happy World Book Day To you – Where Ever You are

Today is WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day is the biggest annual celebration of books and reading in the UK and Ireland. It is an event that I have taken part in for the past couple of years.

For the last two the boys and I and a few friends have put our own slant on it – but we keep to the core value of the system – Give a Book, Get a book….

So the boys have gone off to school this morning with their book tokens, and not sure what they will come home with – but one at least I know will come home with a football book if nothing else, that is if he actually goes does down to the book hall.…

Later on we are going book swapping that’s our little slant on it –… So we have all earmarked  at least three book that a friend /neighbour wants (that we WANT to give away – my kids and I are book horders) and we identify which book they have that we want and we do a trade, have a cup of tea, spend some time chatting, watch a movie and them head back home…

So a cool evening all round…

Son1 is trading – Zizou Corder – LIONBOY set of books….

Bk 3 - Charlie Ashanti – lion-rescuer, shipwreck-survivor and Catspeaker – is safe with his parents. Or is he? Old enemies are closing in: Maccomo, the liontrainer, longs for revenge, and the evil Corporacy is still hunting Charlie and his mum and dad. They could hide. But the time to hide is over. Now is the time to fight back...

______________________________________________

Bk 2 - Charlie Ashanti is on the run from an amazing floating circus with six homesick beautiful Lions and an extraordinary sabre-toothed creature. Charlie has promised to help the Lions find their way home to Morocco but he has his own problems: his Mum and Dad have been kidnapped and he is determined to find them. His new friends, King Boris of Bulgaria and his security chief, Edward, have promised to help. But can Charlie and the Lions trust them? One thing is for sure, the chase is on …

Bk 1 - Charlie Ashanti can speak Cat. He takes it for granted - but when his mum and dad go missing, the cats are the only friends he can turn to. Setting out to find his parents, Charlie stows away on an incredible circus ship bound for Paris. On board he meets six proud, beautiful lions who need his help.

Together they embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

Son 2

Arsenal and Manchester United goods….(If he decides to give anything away…)

He doesn’t read if it’s not football or comics ( School books doesn’t count, and god forbid he give away any of the piles of comics he has) – We have come to a compromise that he can take the movie that we will be watching tonight… So yet for the the 100 time…. we will be subjected to GREASE…

Me…

When a serial killer reveals the identity of his next victim--a beautiful woman named Laurant Madden--FBI agent Nick Buchanan steps in to protect her but quickly finds his mission complicated by his feelings for her.

Haunted by his past, doctor Blue Calhoun finds his life forever changed by the arrival of Isabel Fish-Wooten, a wounded fugitive trying to prove her innocence, and braves high society and the criminal underworld to find the truth.

Jasper Renshaw, Viscount Vale, has a problem: he needs to marry and produce an heir to the title. All Jasper wants is to find a lady who will put up with him long enough to wed so he can retreat to his life of debauchery--a life that keeps the haunting memories of his past at bay. Knowing that Jasper is under pressure to marry, Melisande Flemming grasps her fate with both hands and volunteers to wed him. Although Jasper is initially only interested in producing an heir, he soon becomes entranced by his wife--prim and proper by day, wanton by night-- and vows to learn her secrets.
Melissande, however, is determined to keep her husband at a distance. She has loved, and lost, before, and will do anything to keep him from learning her terrible weakness: she's secretly been in love with him for years. But to her chagrin, her husband pursues her, wooing her as if she were a paramour, not his lady wife. As Melissande and Jasper embark on a passionate game of cat and mouse, secrets from the past begin to resurface.... threatening to tear them asunder.

I have earmarked three books from the list of the books we are all swapping…. The boys, I don't know – whatever strikes their fancy… but I am not worried if they get nothing, they do have overstuffed bookshelves to get through...

Women Who changed the World

Women of the Bible – H.V. Morton

Any thing by Neil Gaiman

If you are on this side of the pond – I hope you are getting involved and doing your own thing for World Book day…. Everybody else, A very Happy World Book Day to you… Even if you cant share a book, recommend a book to a friend…

That is so cool. It should be international. Have fun at your exchange, not only books but friends at the same time. Double bonus.

Wat an fab idea and we've got a National Book Week in the Netherlands in which reading and books are promoted. Usually it has a topic each year and libraries organize a lot. Since I'm no longer a member of my local library ( no english novels in my genre :( I'm a bit out of touch what they do to celebrate this week. Enjoy your WBD EH :)
