Hello team….
I am rushed off my feet today and did not invest the time in putting together a post for today's Discussion Point… I am spoilt for choice of stuff to talk about though, so look out for some great topics in the coming weeks…
But, Today I am resurrecting one of my old post so you all can either take part on this post or you can do your own thing on your blog…. Makes sure you come back and let me know if you do….
Enjoy…
1. Thou shalt not buy discounted books from the bargain bin. This path can only lead to regret.
Been there, done that - already – and so not regretting it.
2. Thou shalt not buy the next two books in a series when thou has not yet read book one.
Why not, they might not be there when I go back.
3. Thou shall give away a book if thou has already tried to read it three times on three separate occasions.
No it’s mine and I shall never give it away …… I might read it - eventually..
4. Thou shall keep a thorough record of all books thou owns so to avoid the dreaded and oft-embarrassing double-up.
We do try, but it’s a path we all MUST go down, before we learn.
5. Thou shalt covet thy neighbours books. Thou shalt also covet thy best friend's, mother's, daughter's and thy library's books.
Every damn chance I get – you do realise I am spending more and more time at the neighbours.
6. Thou shalt not attend charity book sales without a plan. A good plan.
Yeaaaaah – riggggght, just like going to the supermarket with a 6yrs old and a shopping list – see how far that gets you.
7. Thou shalt not borrow books from others unless thou desperately wants to read them.
You do see how desperate I am – Every time – All the time
8. Thou shalt not buy books just because thou likes the covers.
Have you seen the covers on some of these books – if all else fail I'll just look at the cover – My monies worth.
9. Thou shalt not re-buy already owned books just so the covers and sizes match.
Who the hell does that – Oh sorry, I am forgetting my number one sin – UK covers of so many author I love – need I say more.
10. THOU SHALL NOT BUY MORE BOOKS THAN THOU CAN READ!
WHAT WORLD ARE YOU LIVING IN – WHO THE HELL CAME UP WITH THIS…….
20 Speak To Me:
..just remembered that book I borrowed from a friend in September *blush*
My biggest rule is to not buy more books in a month than I read in the prior month-I also do not buy hardbound fiction unless at big discount-recently I got two of Lisa See's novels at about an 85 percent discount at one of the big mall book stores here in Manila-I now follow your blog
*Thunk* <--- That's me, falling on the floor from laughter. These '10 Commandments' are sooo funny--- and true. Except for the last one, of course. Pst, like I could limit myself when buying!
Thanks for this post, EH! Loved it, and I'll definitely keep it in my bookmarks so I can come back and, uh, review the commandments in the future. :D Maybe I'll (eventually) be able to be a good little girl about #10. Yeah, I doubt it, too!
Enjoy,
TBQ
Hmm. Maybe you need to rewrite that list. :)
Great post, E.H.!
I try to limit my book buying, but I have no willpower. I have books that I'll probably never read, but I keep them around just in case there's a blizzard, zombie invasion, etc., and I can't leave the house for a while.
Until I discovered e-books I never bought books. That was a rare occurrence. Now, well, out of sight out of mind I guess. LOL Not good and that list sucks. I do try to limit though. I don't have 300 books like some people. If I get up to 20 I start to get panicky. LOL
LOL, certainly does not sound like rules to live by!!!
Um, I think I'm so going to Book Hell because I have broken all of these on more than one occasion. ;0)
What an awesome post. Lots of those are me. I've almost been caught buying a book I have when they reprint it with a new cover but if I'm not sure I check the publishing date. My hubby & son think that for every book I bring home I should get rid of one. They don't get that I only read keepers.
Haha...Too true! A lot of them applies to me, especially #10. Gah...towering pile of TBR. Even my brother harps at me about it.
@Blodeuedd..
"September" - you need to be whipped woman...
I can now say that my work here is done then...
Hope you find the book..

Why didn't I know about this clause when my Mom did her de-clutter...
I also have no willpower as well - I am so freaking easy...
E.H>
@Tam...
I wish I did have 20 book TBR pile...
I have so much physical books and ebooks - and yet I still add to the list...
I really need to start working on a list - a note, something.... to reduce my buying habit...
I blame you all...
E.H>
@Hi lady Jen...
