The Sunday Salon – De-Cluttering All-Round

I am going to say now before I go any further that I am not sure I am with it this morning. Remember I said I was going to de-clutter, well it did and it didn’t happen.

I was told to get out of the house on Saturday so I would not see the carnage (my family knows me too well) – and I returned to the scene of the crime last evening and I don't think my heart as recovered as yet…

My mom decided to do this whole Feng Shui thingy to my shelf’s  – I know you think why can’t I do it myself, well because I only take the books down and put them back up so she took matters into her own hands…. So now I am reduced to one large book shelf and one sort of narrow shelf for the more recent books that I need to read.

I say the scene of the crime because when I came home – the house was gorgeous – you know that just put together feel – I saw parts of my desk that I hadn’t seen in ages, the first thing I did was run out to the bins to check what has been tossed out – shameful isn’t it.

Anyhow no books to be found in the bins, so even with a now organised room, I was more concerned with where my books were. I am heart sore at not seeing my books and only having to survive with one measly shelf…

The good thing is that my books are packed up in the attic all labelled and probably missing me as well…. You do know this neat tidy bookcase is not going to last…

I am already plotting how to start refilling the few empty spaces I see on there…

Anyhow that’s enough about me – onto the magazines.. I grew up reading stuff like National Geographic and Readers Digest.. and while in my adult life I read them more online than physical copies I was sadden to hear this past week that the UK arm of The Readers Digest has gone into administration… Sad.

The future of Reader's Digest is under threat after the British edition of the magazine went into administration, putting 117 jobs at risk.

The decision was confirmed yesterday after negotiations between the company's U.S. parent group, Reader's Digest Association, and the Pensions Regulator broke down over its UK pension fund.

The dispute centres on how the company will fill its £125million pension deficit.

The final chapter for Reader's Digest? After 72 years, magazine collapses into administration as pension fund bail-out fails

I am trying to catch up on blogs today – as I have not made my usual rounds this week – I made up for that by reading some pretty decent Graphic Novel books, I am hoping to do some sort of reviewette about them.

I am also changing the name of my blog to E.H. On Books and More – I know it’s simply, but I just need something that defines me more – I read so many genre and Erotic Horizon says Erotic which I love, don’t get me wrong, But I am more than just how much smut is in a book..

I’ll probably change it again before I settle on something – so bear with me…  Any suggestions in the meantime..

I hope the weekend end is going swimmingly for you – and another Monday is almost here… however enjoy the rest of this wonderful Sunday..

Until next week – cheers

What is the Sunday Salon? Imagine some university library's vast reading room. It's filled with people--students and faculty and strangers who've wandered in. They're seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them, and they're all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go. Later they'll mill around the open dictionaries and compare their thoughts on the afternoon's literary intake....

That's what happens at the Sunday Salon, except it's all virtual. Every Sunday the bloggers participating in that week's Salon get together--at their separate desks, in their own particular time zones--and read. And blog about their reading. And comment on one another's blogs. Think of it as an informal, weekly, mini read-a-thon, an excuse to put aside one's earthly responsibilities and fall into a good book

I like the name change :)
Even if I will always think of your blog by the old name

The new title is grabbing EH! And you let your family touch your books *gasp* My shelves are getting cluttered too and I seriously need some more shelves. Anyhoo, the only family member who can rummage through my shelves is my book loving sister...

You've just got one....ONE tidey shelf of books, I can only imagine the ways you must come up with to fill out those empty spots :)

The new name sounds good, EH.

As for my bookshelves, I just had to box up most of my books because of Emma. She's decided at 3 years old that she is going to start reading (playing with books). But, she doesn't like her books, only mine. Not going to happen!! So, I've put them away for now. :(

It's good that they didn't chuck out your books! I'm not sure I could've left the house for that. I probably would've stayed and flung myself in front of the shelves. :)

GASP! The books are in the attic! NONONO! Just send them to me and I will find a nice spot somehow on my bookshelves for them and make them feel loved again!

I don't think I could handle missing my books! I would have a heartattack!

Lovin the new name for the blog!

I like the new blog title especially if it makes you happy. :)

Oh, I wish my family would do a feng shui intervention on my house. But sadly that would only be in a fairy tale about me.

Enjoy your new space!

I agree with everyone else. I like the new name.

I desperately need someone to come declutter for me! Help! Of course, I'll have to declutter some on my own before I'd let anybody in at the moment. There just aren't enough hours in the day right now to get anything done.

@Leontine

Thanks for the support my dear...

After a deep breath I do let my family touch my books - it wasn't easy but it had to be done...

Lets see how long before I fill up the space again...

@Lily..

Thanks hon..

I know what you mean about the kiddies loving the books a little too much...

I have some LaVryle Spencer that have been a little too loved by grubby little 5 year old fingers... (no covers - LOL)

@Chris..

That was one of the hard and fast rule before I allowed them to touch them...

I just went down the road - and believe me I was itching to get back...

The day is still young I might yet fling myself infront of the bookcase bemoaning my lose...

I am dramatic like that... LOL

@Amy J...

You do want to kill me - I am barely surviving with them in the attic - can you imagine if I send them off to the plains to you...

Kill me now Please....

No heart attack yet - but close...

Thanks

@Donna..

Thank you hon... I am good with it actually...

Be careful what you wish for my dear - I used to moan about the load on my shelves and this is the end result...

Me looking at the boxes in the attic every few hours...

@Eyre..

Thanks hon

I did take off the must keep books before I had them do their thing - I think they took that as carte blanche to pack up everything else...

It's not pretty hon - but be brave - I'll let you know at the end of the week if I have started dragging them back down...
