Weekly Geek – Cleaning house or just a good sweep

Every now and then it’s good to go through your blog and clean house so to speak. Dump old pictures that have been hanging around too long, update pages, spice up some of the sidebars or just simply tighten up a good thing if it is working for you…

This is the first Weekly Geek challenge for 2010 and they have decided to use Natasha from Maw Book Blog second BLOGGIESTA OLE as their vehicles for letting us Weekly Geekers – have a good scrub out of our place…

I am so in, as you all know I am a big fan of changing my blog template ever so often…. My header is the thing that gets the most abuse – I change it as my mood changes…

Here is the main body of the BLOGGIESTA – follow the link provided below to see the rules…

Mark your calendars for the second edition of the Bloggiesta on January 8th, 9th and 10th, 2010!  What a perfect time to do some blog housekeeping, sprucing up and prepping the blog for a new year of fantastic blogging.

After feedback from the last Bloggiesta, we will be partying for three days instead of two!  Details are below.

Some of you may be asking what is Bloggiesta?  In short, it’s a blogging marathon.  A opportunity to cross those nagging items off of your to-do list and improve your blog while in the good company of other awesome bloggers doing the same thing.  Break out the nachos, enchiladas, drinks, mariachi music and whack a pinata or two!

What to do during the Bloggiesta?
  • Write reviews.
  • Write backup posts for a rainy day.
  • Write that great post idea from three months back.
  • Work on series posts.
  • Write guest posts.
  • Put out invitations for guest posts.
  • Conduct and edit author interviews.
  • Create template posts for your future reads (ie: title, images, linking, tags, etc,) so you can open up, write review and post without being bogged down with technicalities
  • Clean up your tags, archives, books reviewed list, etc.
  • Create a text file (or Google Doc) of cheat sheets (html codes, post url’s, etc)
  • Improve your blog template, clean up sidebars, add a favicon, install those plugins that you’ve been meaning to do.
  • Add or edit your about me page, review policy, disclosure policy, privacy policy, create landing pages (for example – an about me for Twitter readers page) or any other pages you might have.
  • Any bloggy type housekeeping that you’ve been neglecting.
  • Clean up and update your challenge lists.  Link up your posts with hosts.
  • Make sure all of your social network profiles are up to date.  Brand yourself through those profiles with color scheme, images, etc.
  • Go get a gravatar.
  • Visit the Blogging Tips group on the Book Blogs Ning and find ways to improve your blog.
  • Work on any specialized projects that you may have going.
  • Clean out and organize your feed reader and blog subscriptions.
  • Create an elevator pitch.
  • Make business cards.
  • Find a blogging buddy.
  • The sky’s the limit!

I will do my round up tomorrow evening during my Sunday Salon piece… I am already ahead of the game in this as I had done the new template at the beginning of the month…. and as you can see I am also constantly adding and moving stuff around…

I will be doing a few stuff on here today and tomorrow, hopefully I can get my email sorted at the same time as well….

Even if you can’t join the event to meet the deadline – the list is a good one to have to keep track of what’s happening on your blog and what you might be behind on…

I was participating inadvertently yesterday, tidying up my sidebar a bit.

Hi EH,
My sites and blogs so desperately need this. When you finish with yours, how about giving mine a brisk muck-out??? LOL
Seriously where do you find the time? But I love the results, however you do it. Always looks so neat and fresh at your place.

I love this. As you know I'm going to work on mine over the coming week. I first need to decide on the pic for the header which you've already giving great advice about.

I'm liking the look of yours right now too. So many thing we can do.
