Title: Wanting

Author:  M. L. Rhodes

Publisher: Amber Allure

Main Characters: Jeremy Reynolds & Ben Cross

It started with one kiss. Which led to another. And another. And then to a mind-blowing night of intimacy Jeremy Reynolds can’t forget. He can’t stop thinking about the gorgeous, smart, compassionate man who tilted his world. Can’t stop seeing warm, sexy eyes gazing at him with breath-stealing intensity.

Jeremy tries to tell himself to let the incident go, move on, and chalk it up to a life experience. After all, what transpired between him and his best friend and roommate, Ben Cross, can never happen again. Ben is gay, and Jeremy...isn’t. At least he’s never thought he was before. But now he’s torn and confused and not sure what the night with Ben meant—for either of them. Already stressed about final exams before the holidays and his difficult family situation, Jeremy doesn’t know how to deal with the conflicting feelings he’s having. And the one person he’s always been able to talk to about everything, and who’s always been there for him, is the very person he’s been avoiding for the past week because he doesn’t know how to face him after waking up in his bed.

Afraid he might have already screwed up his and Ben’s friendship beyond repair, Jeremy is haunted even more by the backlash he could face if he admits to Ben, or even to himself, how much the night they spent together really meant to him.

And how much he still wants Ben even now...

My thoughts

I tried this book because I am a fan of Rhodes work – the characters I am prone to always like and the rather messy scenarios she tend to drop them in.

WANTING is played out in an insulated locale of a college setting. Jeremy and Ben have done the unexpected and unthinkable act of sleeping together. They are best friends and Jeremy had never expected their friendship to go that far. It’s sweet to watch both Ben and Jeremy try to justify why it happened and more over the chain reaction that followed that one act.

Rhodes peppers this novella with family dramatic, life issues and comical but rather refreshing look at college life. I liked it with all its angsty moments and introspective look at a bunch of friend finding their place in each others life's as well as forming the foundation of what I hope will be life long friendships…

Fans of Rhodes work – no less than expected. New readers, I think this is a good one to start with…

Title: To Find and to Keep

Author: Serena Yates

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press   (Amazon Link)

Main Characters: Ryan & Daniel

Four years ago Ryan's parents disowned him for being gay. To escape their threats, he ran away to Canada. Now his twin sister Nicole is getting married to his best friend Peter, and Ryan will risk anything to attend. Help arrives in the most unexpected form: Peter's older brother Daniel, the man Ryan had loved from afar.

My Thoughts

I was attracted to this book by the cover – it looks different, it has this fairy tale look to it and as compared to the masses of covers with nekkid men this was a looker. I was also hoping for something different as well.

I got difference in the fact that the book feels like it’s the entire middle section of a longer book – so there was no beginning to know why Ryan was in the situation he was in, and rather than the obvious – the reason he came back – there wasn’t anything more to the book.

In spite of that or because of that  I was fascinated by the characters - Ryan is frail mentally and physically and while I like my guys on the smaller side, Ryan was just so broken it was hard to like him. Daniel was the opposite, take charge optimistic and I would like to think that this was or is the perfect combination – but yet again the book closes before I got the chance to..

Ms. Yates takes the time with this book to delve into some of the heartbreak that Ryan experiences as well as how he tries to survive the time without his family or a friend- those scenes are rather touching..

But--- yes but - Ms. Yates either has a great promo plan with how these books are released because before I could think “what is this” a lengthier book is due for release – and I am intrigued. Ms Yates has left so main issues, problems and possibility in the air that leave me looking forward to the next book’s release…

TO FIND AND TO KEEP is a sweet read with some rather tender smut scene…. And a must read as I am intending to follow up Ryan’s and Daniel’s journey…

I liked Wanting and am trying to remember who found the weird instance of leg breathing in it (a weird sentence construction).
