Review: Halle Pumas Bk 4 – Steel Beauty © Dana Marie Bell

Title: Steel Beauty

Author: Dana Marie Bell

Publisher: Samhain Publishing

Main Characters : Belinda “Belle” Campbell & Rick Lowell

She’s everything a big bad wolf could want.

Halle Pumas, Book 4

Coping with a devastating injury is hard enough for Belinda “Belle” Campbell. Forced separation from her destined mate while she heals is almost more than she can endure. Until she is strong enough to take up her duties as Luna of the Poconos Wolf Pack, however, the safest place for her is Halle. Now, after months of being alone, she is more than ready to be claimed. But is the pack ready for a Puma Luna?

Rick Lowell has waited long enough to bring Belle home where she belongs. He’s aware of the danger, as well—and it isn’t long before a bitch with an eye on Belle’s position issues a challenge. The only way to put down the threat is for Belle to defeat the usurper in combat.

There’s only one problem. Thanks to the pins in her broken hip, Belle can’t shift. Without that tactical advantage, it won’t be a fair fight. With his new mate’s life on the line, Rick is forced to make a decision that will change everything.

That is, if Belle gives him the chance to make it.

“Wow, you’re cranky today.” Belle put the phone between her ear and shoulder and scratched blissfully at her arm. The cast had finally come off and she could reach that damn spot that had been bothering her for eight long weeks.

“What makes you say that?”

“Oh, I dunno. The fact that you growled at me, maybe?”

“Oh. That.”

“Simon is mated, Rick. He’s also my Beta. I have to talk to him sometimes.”

“You may have to talk to him, but I don’t have to like it.”

“Really? Huh.” His chuckle was music to her ears. Her gasp of pain as she shifted in her chair, apparently, was not music to his ears. “Don’t growl at me, there’s nothing I can do about it. Besides, you’re the one who agreed to go back north until the doctor releases me for Lunatic duty.”

She sighed as the pain subsided. It was so tempting to reach for the morphine when the pain got this bad, but she wouldn’t. Jamie was right; she’d become too dependent on it. They’d mutually decided she should go on Ibuprofen instead, counting on her Puma metabolism to get the drug out of her system as quickly as possible.

The night she went off the morphine she’d chosen to text Rick first, not wanting him to hear the withdrawals she was going through. She kept it short, merely telling him she was having a bad day and she’d speak to him the next night. He’d responded, but he hadn’t sounded happy. The next night her phone rang before the physical therapist was even done seeing her. That had been two weeks ago.

“I’m fine, Rick. The cast on my arm came off today.”

“Yeah, I can finally scratch.”

“And we all know how much cats like to scratch?”

“Very funny, Fido. Har har. Peed on any hydrants lately?”

“In this weather? Are you nuts? I’d be glued to the damn thing until the spring thaw.”

She laughed out loud, the first one in over a week.

“Now that is the sweetest sound.”

That rough, rich voice slid through her, speeding up her heart rate. And from the look of her no-longer-red nail polish her eyes had turned gold. There go my panties, getting all wet again. How does the man do that when I’m ready to rip my leg off from the pain?

She heard the front door to her small apartment open. Turning, she saw Sarah come in, a smile on her wind-kissed cheeks. “Sarah’s here. Gotta run.”

“Pizza and poker night?”

“Yup. I’ll tell Adrian and Simon you said hi.”

He was still grumbling when she hung up.

When we left the Halle Pumas last time a new mating was announced and even the mated pair were as surprised as anyone else by this particular mating. One is Belinda “Belle” Campbell who has not had an easy time of it for the last few month in the pack. Due to no fault of her own but more by association she has been painted and tarnished with a brush that makes her no longer happy in her a pack and because of this she has decided to carry on as best as she can and makes friends with only those she knows are genuine in their interest.

Finding out that she is mated to a wolf alpha is not only surprising but it is more compounded by the fact that she is hurt and needs to recovery before she has any chance of being with her mate. The time looks long and the distance seems far when you are in need of your mate – but Belle has phone calls and her sarcastic wit to push her on until the time comes to go to her man.

The man in question is  Rick Lowell who is also missing his mate with every fibre of his being. Rick has so much issues with Belle being so far away from him and most it surround his jealousy of any man who dares breath on his Belle. Life for Rick in his pack is just about as difficult as it generally is, but add in a wanna be bitch who knows how to work the old laws in her favour – and he his running scared and just wants his Luna.

From the moment Belle is set to go home to Rick things started going wrong and even days later – it has only gotten worse. Belle however is stronger than even Rick realises and despite her frail look a whole lot of bitches are gonna know that there is a new Pack Luna in charge.

Hand down STEEL BEAUTY is the best of the series so far. For one it starts immediately after CAT OF A DIFFERENT COLOR and Ms. Bell works her magic with two protags that gave as good as they got.  Belle is a character that have been in all four books so far – I know her, I feel for her and more than anything else – I want her to be ecstatically happy – even if it has to be with a wolf.

Rick is Alpha male through and through and only because of health reason more than any thing else that he has agreed to endure a prolongs time without his mate. What I love about Rick is the fact that he knows where he is strongest and he hones his leadership toward that area, the areas he is unable to corral enough to please him he allows members of his team to do their job and support him in his. There are some issues however that he just does not have the time or even want to tangle with if truth be told and leaves these up to people who should know better – and this is where all of his troubles begins.

Apart Rick and Belle are funny, determined and desperate to be together, together they are just unstoppable but have problems finding that perfect fit to make their magic work beyond the bedroom. With a challenge unlike any they have ever had to face before – Belle makes a decision that will have life long repercussion – while Rick is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for his Luna

How many ways can I say I fell in Love with Rick – he is everything That I would have wanted for Belle – He is the perfect foil for her snarky way, her acid tongue and her magic moves that she knows how to work on him.

The fact that Ms. Bell added the wolves into a cat shifter series is a well played move, it spices up the series and after three books it breaks up what would certainly have become just another cat shifter book. There are a few side stories running through this book and i am hoping “spin off’s” because some of the storylines are so tantalising and I am so jonesing for some M/M action if she decides to go that root.

STEEL BEAUTY kicks this series up another notch and I am so looking forward to book five to see where Ms. Bell takes series.

OOOo my OCD says read this one. At first in book 1 I didn't like Belinda thinking she was bitchy & mean, then in Book 3 we got to see the real Blinda and a sneak peak w/ sexy Rick. I just have to find out if she can shift again!

EH other than Book 1, where would you rate Book 4?

In 1959 phentermine first received approval from the FDA as an appetite suppressing drug. Phentermine hydrochloride then became available in the early 1970s. It was previously sold as Fastin from King Pharmaceuticals for SmithKline Beecham, however in 1998 it was removed from the market. Medeva Pharmaceuticals sells the name brand of phentermine called Ionamin and Gate Pharmaceuticals sells it as Adipex-P. Phentermine is also currently sold as a generic. Since the drug was approved in 1959 there have been almost no clinical studies performed. The most recent study was in 1990 which combined phentermine with fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine and became known as Fen-Phen.[citation needed]
In 1997 after 24 cases of heart valve disease in Fen-Phen users, fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine were voluntarily taken off the market at the request of the FDA. Studies later proved that nearly 30% of people taking fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine had abnormal valve findings. The FDA did not ask manufacturers to remove phentermine from the market.
phentermine online Phentermine is still available by itself in most countries, including the U.S. However, because it is similar to amphetamines, it is classified as a controlled substance in many countries (including Australia). Internationally, phentermine is a schedule IV drug under the Convention on Psychotropic Substances.[1] In the United States, it is classified as a Schedule IV controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act.
Looking forward, Phentermine is being studied with another medication for obesity. The experimental appetite suppressant drug Qnexa is a mixture of Phentermine and Topiramate.
Phentermine, in doses clinically used, works on the hypothalamus portion of the brain to release norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter or chemical messenger that signals a fight-or-flight response, reducing hunger. Phentermine works outside the brain as well to release epinephrine or adrenaline causing fat cells to break down stored fat, but the principal basis of efficacy is hunger-reduction. At high doses, phentermine releases serotonin and dopamine as well, but such doses are never used in clinical medicine.
