Super Thursday In The UK

800 New titles released today

Today is a SUPER THURSDAY in the UK, in other parts of the world it’s boils down to that first day of a season where people go mad in the run up to the big day – Christmas.

Super Thursday is the day where book publisher push as much books as they can on to the unsuspecting British public in the hope of being a number one best seller by the time the end of the year rolls around.

Me personally this week alone has seen me spend my biggest haul of money for the year and none of it on any of the books on the books released today. Thanks to Books On Board and Book Depository – I have made great inroads into a haul of Urban Fantasy books and of course a whole parcel of ebooks..

As per the Guardian UK

"It's not a formally organised thing, and there's no suggestion that publishers are working together to make it happen," says Benedicte Page, associate editor of the Bookseller magazine. "But in the run-up to Christmas, now is the time when they need to get their big titles on to the market, get word out about them, get some momentum going. There is a lot riding on securing one of the huge slots that will sell a lot this Christmas, and for the bookselling market, certain dates are particularly propitious."

Believe you me this list is currently topped by celebrities and wannabe’s celebrities biographies and other non essential books.

Checkout The Hut to see a listing of some of the book released.

All the publishers have a little something in there somewhere, but the irony of the whole thing is that as much hoopla that is made about Super Thursday, sadly there is also Super Friday where most of these books are instantly marked down some by as much as 75%.

And that’s where you’ll find me tomorrow…

I know what you mean - I was out in the shops on Friday and Saturday and my heart bleeds for them..

It's a shame, but I suppose they probably made allowance for things like that..
