Review – Wild Heat – Bella Andre

Back of The Book

Maya Jackson doesn't sleep with strangers. Until the night grief sent her to the nearest bar and into the arms of the most explosive lover she's ever had. Six months later, the dedicated arson investigator is coming face to face with him again. Gorgeous, grinning Logan Cain. Her biggest mistake. Now her number-one suspect in a string of deadly wildfires.

Risking his life on a daily basis is what gets Logan up in the morning. As leader of the elite Tahoe Pines Hotshot Crew, he won't back down from a blaze-or from beautiful, lethal Maya Jackson. She may have seduced him with her tears and her passion, but it'll be a cold day in hell before Logan lets down his guard again. Until Maya's life is threatened. With his natural-born hero instincts kicking in, Logan vows to protect the woman sworn to bring him down. And as desire reignites, nothing-not the killer fire or the killer hot on their trail-can douse the flames....

Six moths after losing her brother and father Maya Jackson is back on the job and as much as she is assigned to investigate the well respected fire team leader of the elite Tahoe Pines Hotshot Crew, she also has her own agenda. She is searching for her brothers murderer.

Arriving on the fire site just in time to see the men facing a fire like the hounds of hell at their feet – she straighten her resolve and get on with the job at hand. Her first task as an arson investigator is to make the suspect aware of the investigation and of course put in on suspension. One hitch to that plan – Logan Cain the main suspect is also the man that six months months ago gave her an unforgettable moment on top of a bar counter and apparently he has not forgotten the moment either.

Logan is pissed and caught in a no win situation if he doesn’t move quickly. When everything seem to be transpiring at the same time to more or less ascertain his guilt – he has to take drastic action. Not only was he under suspicion, but he also has his own suspicions and it’s the last person he should have suspected of the arson that has been happening, but those arson has resulted in murder and Maya looks to be the next on the list.

Bella André is a new to me author and I was very much attracted to this book because of the blurb. The main protags were not hard to like and were very much people you could emphasis with. They have loved and lose and they were dealing with everyday situation – living, dying, coping and surviving basically. Maya a second generation “fire career” child is dealing with a lose that has her at a precarious position in her life.

Not able to sweep the fact that her brother might have been murdered under the carpet, but also the person that is currently setting a spree of fire is also the main suspect in the murder – she is surprise when she sees the face behind the name of her suspect and realise that she not only know the man – but she has not been able to forget him in the six long months that he had touched her life.

I like most of this book, but somehow the relationship between the main protags did not hold me, individually they were strong, but together – it felt stilted and as much as they had some bloody good smut,  I could not feel them together. I was more caught up in the peripheral action and side stories that was taking place in the book. Even the mystery of the arsonist was  well done – Ms. Andre gave me the obvious and really surprised me with the outcome.- really nicely done.

A little bit more could have been divulged about this town of fire-fighters, but as this is a first book in a series – we just might get more later on. This book took me on an emotional high and emotional low as well – nothing was skirted over, life is celebrated and death is treated with a reverence and respect that is befitting the men who risk their all just to keep a town alive.

As much as some of this book did not work for me, I have to admit I am looking forward to the next book – for two reasons,  firstly I am liking the next main protag from his description in WILD HEAT, secondly the cover of the next book is mega HAWT.

Hi E.H.,
Enjoyed reading your review EH, I had the same with Jo Davis and her firefighter series. The first was an entertaining read but I was more drawn to other firefighters then to Howard, the main hero of the story.

I have heard much about Belle Andre from Marissa but I have yet to read my first novel from her hand. Someday I will give her a go, I'm sure of it :D

Hey Cecile..

I found this at your place and thought the blurb was so cool...

I love alot of the secondary action more than the main plot itself...

Hope you like it when you get around to it.
