Nick Baxter, an undercover FBI agent, thinks his BRILLIANT DISGUISE will fool the hicks in New Providence, Iowa. They won't suspect he's there investigating widow Shannon Delgardie, under suspicion of treason. What Nick doesn't know is that everybody in town is conspiring to protect her and investigate him in return.

Shannon needs help. The men her late husband blackmailed are closing in and the FBI might be involved. When Nick approaches her, can she trust him? With the aid of computer hackers and hair stylists, she uncovers the truth, finding a love she never expected in a tiny Iowa town.

Shit, Nick thought. The job. He was supposed to be doing his job. He was supposed to be getting that stupid computer. He wasn’t supposed to be worrying about how soon he can peel off Shannon’s clothes. I’m not supposed to be looking for some side road where I can pull over and kiss her until we both feel blinded. My job, Nick repeated doggedly. I’m supposed to do my job. The job. Think about the job.

They drove the thirty miles to Cedar Rapids where Shannon gave him directions to one of her favorite restaurants. When they finally pulled into the parking lot, Nick was more in control than he’d been for the last hour. Then he turned off the engine and looked at her. Once again, he was swamped by lust and the absolute need to touch her. “Quit looking at me like that.” His hands went to her waist.

“Like what?”

“Like you want me to kiss you.”

“I do,” she admitted.

Her lips parted under his and with a small moan, he drew her to him, his hands moving over her back and then delving into the waistband of her jeans. He got one hand under her blouse and Nick groaned again when he felt her silky, warm skin. His mind turned to mush. All he could think about was the feel of her tongue, her skin and the sensation of falling, the feeling of touching, tasting and wanting.

Nick nuzzled at her neck, his tongue flicking over her collarbone then moving into the hollow at the base of her neck. She shivered as he breathed on her skin. “I don’t think I’ll ever view parking lots in quite the same way,” he said as she slowly pushed away from him and ran her hands through her hair. The long, shaggy style gave her a tousled, just awakened, look. “You’re so beautiful.” He caressed her face with the back of his hand.

To his surprise, Shannon looked flustered. “I don’t think so. But thanks for saying it.” She kissed him again, a lingering, sweet kiss before she pulled away. “Come on, let’s eat.”

Review

Nick Baxter, a FBI agent at the end of his career, has a job to do, investigate the widow Delgardie. Nick had it all planned, accidentally meet the widow, turn on the charm and presto he should have her eating out of his hands. Not all plans goes as planned, little did Nick know that the widow Delgardie comes as a package deal.

Shannon Delgardie, has come home to New Providence, Iowa, not only to lick her wounds after a disappointing marriage, but also to do her own investigation when she starts getting blackmailed by email. When the FBI turns up to do their own investigation, she is already one step ahead of them.

New Providence, Iowa is not surprised by the high jinks of Shannon; after all they have known her all her life. However when the new comer starts asking question, small town inventiveness kicks in, but will Nick find a ways to gain their trust in order to help Shannon, and will Shannon get over her distrust in time to help the people she loves.

An absolutely hilarious read, if you like nosy friends, over eager alpha male and a mum that has more up her sleeves than sleeves, you will love J.L. Wilson’s BRILLIANT DISGUISE.

Nick a FBI agent on the last few months of his career is sent on what should be a fairly simple operation, he is however out manoeuvred at every turn, by literally everyone in New Providence. When he finally meets Shannon, she brings out more in him, than just the need to overhaul her hard drive.

Shannon is well equipped to deal with Nick; however as a woman with little faith in the power of trust, she enjoys the length at which he will go to get the information he needs from her, while she makes up her mind if he is worth everything she has to give.

Ms. Wilson’s New Providence is full of small town quirks and familiar rituals. The locals are loyal, argumentative and gets up to more than even the FBI gives them credit for. I absolutely fell in love with the town and I for one regretted having to leave.
