Review – Dalakis Passion Bk2 - Lucian’s Delight – N.J. Walters

Back Of The Book

At twenty-eight, Delight Deveraux enjoys her family, her work and her independence. All that changes when she works late one night. Delight is horrified when she witnesses her boss being murdered. Suddenly, she is running for her life, pursued by the same men who now wish to silence her. She is saved by a mysterious stranger she has met only once before in her dreams.

Dalakis men love only once in their life, so for hundreds of years, Lucian Dalakis has searched for his mate. He is shocked when she turns up unexpectedly in his dreams. Now that he knows she exists, he will stop at nothing to find her and bind her to him.

The explosive sexual chemistry between them sends her reeling. Not only does she have to deal with the fact that she is still being pursued by criminals, but the man she is falling in love with is a vampire!
She struggles with her growing attraction to Lucian, even as she tries to protect him from the scrutiny of the police detectives investigating the murder. But the threat to her still exists and when her brother is kidnapped, Lucian takes matters into his own hands.

The darkness parted like a curtain and he was suddenly there in front of her. His eyes blazed like fire and pure menace radiated from every pore of his body. She glanced away, shaken by the intensity in his gaze.

Out of the corner of her eye, she could see the still body of one of her attackers. His sightless eyes were wide open, staring up at the night sky. Blood flowed from a wide slash in his neck and soaked into the ground around his head.

“Don’t look at them.” His softly spoken command made her flinch. This man was lethal in a way her assailants could never be. He was power. He was judgment and death.

Yet, his hands were gentle as he turned her onto her back. She could feel him touching her, soothing her aching flesh. It took her a moment to realize that he was dressing her, covering her naked body with her clothes. The reality of her ordeal began to sink in and she began to shake. The dark stranger sat down on the ground next to her and lifted her into his lap as easily as one would a child.

Biting her lip, she tried to hold back the tears that threatened. But then he stroked her bruised cheek with his fingers. Ever so softly, his lips grazed her wound. She was lost.

Huge sobs welled up inside her and spilled out of her mouth, their tortured sounds too loud in the quiet of the cemetery. Her entire body shook as she released her fear and pain.

Strong arms wrapped around her as he pulled her tighter into his embrace. Heat radiated from his massive body and she snuggled close to him, needing his warmth and comfort. He said nothing, but his chest rumbled as he made low comforting sounds.

He made her feel safe in a world gone mad. She owed him her life. She had called and he had come. Time had no meaning as she poured out her tears. When she was finally spent, she sniffed and scrubbed her hands over her face before finally raising it to look at her savior.

The moon came from behind the clouds, illuminating his face. Long black hair fell over his shoulders in a silky curtain, framing a face that was harsh, yet beautiful in its own way. His cheekbones were chiseled, his forehead high, and his lips thin. But it was his eyes that captured her. A brilliant emerald green, they were hard and cold as he looked out over the night, but the moment he sensed her gaze on him, they changed. Heat radiated from their depths as he raised his fingers to her face and carefully brushed away the remains of her tears.

Something about this man called to her on a very deep physical and emotional level. Delight knew that she was still shaken after her ordeal and that the last thing she should want was a man’s hands on her body. But her body wasn’t listening to her. It was totally illogical, but this stranger made her feel protected, cherished, and wanted.

Lucian’s Delight © N.J. Walters

Delight Deveraux is in the wrong place at the wrong time when she works late one night and is now literally living on the edge. Saved on the night by the mysterious man of her dreams, she knows all is not over and takes matters into her own hands to not only save herself but protect those she love and the man who for some reason has became very important to her.

Lucian Dalakis is not looking to rock the boat of the city, he live quietly and does not call attention to himself. The one thing that makes him carry on, his is search for his mate. As is the Dalakis code -  they love only once – and he has been searching a long time for her his mate. When a woman in danger turns up in his dream, he is compelled to find her – before the worst happens.

Finding her is easy enough – then the craziness begins as Delight is determined to be her own woman and protect Lucian at all cost. Lucian see it as is duty to protect his own and Delight for all her craftiness will not slip out of his hands for not even a minute.

With a detective nosing around, Delight plotting and planning – Lucian has more on his plate than he has ever had and he knows it’s time he take matters into his own hands.

The second book in the Dalakis Passion series and if I rated books, this would be a solid five. We are introduced to Delight – happy family oriented girl with only two loves, her brother and her independence. She takes pleasure in the small things and is a joy to be around. When she becomes embroiled in a wrong place, wrong time situation – little did she know that the next few days would bring about a life changing experience for her.

Ms. Walters gives us a book that stands up and roar – not that the plot was anything special, but with fully developed characters, angsty tension filled situation, and a pace that refuse to let me go – I was rushing through this book at a phenomenal pace.

Delight is a kick ass chick, she has a mind of her own and she is not afraid to voice her opinion irrespective of the big bad vampire in the room. Lucian is clearly a cut about the rest – he has some style and I was loving him. There was none of the usual vampi mumbo jumbo – these were back to basic vampire’s – including the silk sheets and old world charm.

I really liked how Ms. Walters mixed up the dynamics of the characters – the men were men, alpha strong, determine and defiantly bad ass, even the bad guys. I enjoyed spending time with them.

The highlight of the book for me was Delight’s brother and i am in lust and I can’t wait to see where Ms. Walters take his character, it was a pleasure to have met him.

The one draw back to this book if I could call it that – is the original cover as shown above . It has very, very remedial graphics and I am not liking it at all. A new cover was introduced when DALAKIS EMBRACE was release – this is a compilation of the first two books in the series  HARKER’S JOURNEY and LUCIAN‘S DELIGHT.
