Review – Anthologies – Jude Mason

Naughty Nooners - Anthology

Back Of The Book

Lunch is Served by Jude Mason

Admitting you're gay is difficult enough. Can Philip Sands go even farther and admit he wants to be dominated?
Philip Sands needs a job. When he finds one at The Gate Room, a gay BDSM club owned and run by the sexy Mark Freeman, he's faced with a dilemma. He'd admitted to being gay years ago, but had hidden his submissive side, even from himself. Dressed in the sexy leather gear required for his new job, Philip finds himself drawn into the lifestyle and lusting after Mark. Constantly aroused by the scenes taking place in the club, the duties he's asked to perform are more then a little frustrating.
An evening meeting, which turns out to be so much more, only adds to his torment. When Mark invites him to come in for lunch the following day, Philip jumps at the chance. Will their meeting turn into more? Will he finally find the courage to tell Mark his feelings? And what does the handsome Mark have in mind?

Philip sat in the front seat of the Toyota sedan, which he’d parked outside The Gate Club, and thought about what had brought him to that moment. He squirmed, trying to get comfortable, and smiled, knowing comfort wasn’t going to happen for at least a few hours. Mark Freeman had seen to that.

He’d met Mark a few short weeks ago when he’d applied for the waiter’s job at The Gate Club. Philip had known what kind of club it was, and he knew all about the Gate Room where members had to pass a security check before they could escort their ’pets’ across the threshold.

That meeting was burned into Philip’s memory. If he lived to be ninety, he was sure he’d remember that darkly handsome man ushering him into his small office. Philip was tall and well muscled, but had nothing on Mark. He was a good six inches taller and outweighed him by at least thirty pounds. The tight black slacks and silk shirt did nothing to hide the man’s bulging muscles. Tendrils of dark hair curled over the top of his fitted, white silk shirt, and when he’d reached out to shake hands, Philip’s eyes had been glued there. Only when Mark had gently cleared his throat had Philip dragged his attention back to the reason he’d come. A job, yes, he needed a job and the one being offered fitted him perfectly.

“Why don’t you sit down and we’ll get right to business,” Mark suggested and nodded at the leather chair on the visitor’s side of the desk.

“Thanks, Mr. Freeman,” Philip replied and hurried to sit down, knowing an erection was imminent. At least seated, it wouldn’t be so evident. The chair was comfortable, and while Mark glanced through his résumé, Philip got the chance to look around the room.

Books and files lined about half of the wall behind Mark while six monitor screens filled the other half. The screens were blank and Philip wondered what he’d see if they were switched on. Mark’s desk was mid-sized and made of dark wood; the corners were padded with the same black leather as the chairs. He glanced around and saw a tall metal cabinet that took up most of another wall. Its doors were closed.

Incongruously, in the corner to his right stood what looked like a carpenter’s sawhorse or bench, only much nicer. The top was padded in leather, just like all the furniture, and looked well used.

Philip Sands has turned up at The Gate Room for an interview for a much needed job. The thing that attracted him to the club was not the club itself, as much as he needed the job – but the club owner Mark Freeman. During the interview and familiarization process – Phillip admires and yearns for all that Mark seems to be about.

After only a few weeks at the club Mark makes Phillip feel like he on the edge of finding something that only Mark knows about. Phillip is enjoying his time and give himself alot of time to think – but there comes a time when he has to make a choice as not only does Mark needs to hear the words, but Phillip needs to hear them himself, but can he make that ultimate step to confirm who he his, who he has been denying for years.

I am really excited by this book, I love the characters – not only were they fun but they connect. I could feel it, I could see it and I was desperate to see how far they would take it.

Ms. Mason fills this short read with a lot of innuendo, oral and physical and  it was thrilling to see Phillip accept himself for who he is and become the man that not only pleased Mark but made him a man he was comfortable with himself.

This short read  hits all my buttons – hot men, self denial and eventual acceptance – some hot man loving and more over lots of emotional tension – I am loving it. This books delves into the life of Mark and Phillip over a few weeks – so don’t go expecting the reinvention of the wheel – what we get is Ms. Mason at her best and craftiest-. She made me not miss things I normally looked for in a book, she wrapped up a whole lot into so little and she chose her setting I would say with a lot of care, because the setting made the most impact on the story.

As much as I have not read the other books in the Anthology, if this is any indication of what the other authors have contributed – I am so finishing this Anthology.

Pleasure Bound

Back Of The Book

Selene's Awakening by Jude Mason
Take a gorgeous, Canadian alpha male, who's fled the rat race and moved to the woods, and add an equally gorgeous, but spoiled, British woman with an attitude and buried submissive tendencies and what do you have? World War III? Love? Maybe a little of both?
Disillusioned with the world and all its civilised gadgetry, David Wolf moves to the wilds of Western Canada's forests. Selene Jordan, one of the rich and infamous, is from the UK. She has it all and isn't afraid to show it off, or berate anyone who doesn't have as much.
Selene is vacationing in Canada and manages to run her pretty blue sports car into a ditch, and knock herself out in the process. David finds and rescues her, much to his chagrin later. She tries ordering him around and refuses to do anything to help herself or make his life easier. Yet, David keeps his calm. After all, she's not going anywhere, and he's got a plan.
Will Selene learn to pull her own weight? Or will David have to teach her a lesson in proper guest etiquette? Sparks fly and emotions run hot as these two vie for the alpha position. A position that only one of them really wants.

Leaning against the rough bark of an old cedar tree, David ran the rag over his face, sopping up some of the sweat that had trickled into his eyes. His eyes stung. His back ached from the steady, monotonous swinging of the axe, but the clearing was getting bigger. Soon it would be large enough for the garden he planned.

He flipped the long ponytail over his shoulder and wiped his chest with the damp cloth, then tucked it back into the rear pocket of his jeans. Gazing across the stump strewn field, he groaned, thinking about how difficult pulling those babies out was going to be. The gravel roadway just beyond was silent, as usual. From the angle of the sun, he figured he had about an hour before night fell—half that time to actually work.

“Better get back at it,” he muttered and pushed himself away from the tree. The axe gripped tight, he wrestled the next round of wood onto the splitting block.

He soon found his rhythm—lift, place and swing, then flip the cut pieces to the side. The pile of firewood grew steadily, until daylight went and he had to stop.

The muscles in his arms and shoulders hummed with fatigue, but he piled as much wood as he could into his cart before he felt he could call it a day. The handcart held enough wood to keep him going for a few days, and the large wheels made it easy to transport. Building it had been a stroke of genius.

David Wolf loves his little slice of the woods that he calls his own. The only draw back to being their is the necessity to stock up on wood to keep his cabin warm through the winter.

Getting on with the business at hand – he comes across the last thing he expects to find, a car ran off the run and a gorgeous woman in a worst for wears condition sprawled over the steering wheel. Going into protective mode he take home the blonde beauty and tries to make her as comfortable as he can manage.

Somehow David has forgotten the age old saying – be careful of stranger you take home from car crashes – as not only is Ms. Selene Jordan gorgeous and has all the curves in all the right places, but she was a snooty bitch, and with the first words out of her mouth David knew taking her home was a big mistake.

Selene however is in for a rude awakening – as David is not oppose to challenge, especially when it’s one that rings all his bell.

Another quickie from the Anthology Pleasure Bound and Ms. Mason was not at her best.  I get the premise behind the story – but knowing this authors style, everything felt rush and crammed into an allotted word count. The few moment of brilliant was down to the minor peek at the BDSM that Ms. Mason really does well.

Although not a fan of Anthologies- I can clearly see where Selene and David can be revisited, as there is just something about outdoor, sexy man and a women with a desperate need to be handled.

I will be giving all the the story a go -

The Naughty Nooners anthology has been a big hit. People just like m/m, no doubt about it. The other stories are great, too.

Take care!

Hey Sassy..

I couldn't agree with you more - I think she is one of the best author in terms of versatility, and that shock factor... that we need in a decent read.

for some reason this last Anthology - I was just not getting it.. but the Naughty Nooner was so her - because I know she is wonderful at short stories as well as novel length.

Have you tried Jenna Byrnes books - drop me an email and i'll recommend some books by both authors...

Naughty Nooners was real fun to write. I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

Pleasure Bound, a bit of a stretch that didn't work for you. Sigh! Too much story in a smallish space. Yes, I see how that could happen.

Thanks so much for both of these reviews. I'll definitely keep your ideas in mind for future works.
