Was it Worth it and Why am I Not Surprised

I have been limiting my use of Amazon recently to only using the widget that they provide for my blog. While i would like to say piss off with Amazon – i can’t because in some way shape or form they interlink to so much of the book related community that you literally can’t get away from them.

And to be fair to them – the stuff they do well – they excel at it, however when they make a blunder it can range from the size of a peanut to things that have people up in arms.

I was just at the point where my torch for Amazon was burning a little less bright until i jumped on the web a few day ago to check out an item i had bought for a friend and lets just say i am in the process of pouring more accelerant onto my torch and it’s not a nice felling.

I bought a Kindle 2 for a friend in the US albeit just going on three weeks and this was after much to-ing and fro-ing – as this was not my first choice as an e-reader. Anyhow less than 2 weeks later Amazon introduces the Kindle DX – I was livid.

Why put a product on the market and then less than 3months later you more or less come out with an upgraded (i use that word frugally) version. I am so annoyed – i automatically do what i do best and resorted to the fine print. I was lucky enough to have had the item taken back and put on the waiting list for the DX.

But it’s the inconveniences to myself and my friend, the insincerity of the company, and the little additional cost here and there that the whole process attracted.

I have never been attracted to Amazon Kindle any of it – and this is just another nail in the coffin for them with me. This whole thing just spoiled both of our joy  in an event that should be a wonderful thing. Mine for the fact that i spend my money to give a friend a gift that she wanted and i knew would make a difference to her reading life. My friend who was more than content to be satisfied with “the bird in hand” so to speak – was a lot put out by this and felt totally let down – as she has been researching this since last year and finally decided on the Kindle 2 – what could i do – i made sure she had the best they had – which for now is Kindle DX..

I hate people who make me pull apart and quantify something that should in reality be a joy. I really do..

Both Kindle in perspective.

Clearly  the difference are eye catchingly obvious  and to be fair to my friend she was so upbeat about her disappointment when she heard that a new one was on it’s  way this summer – so after having the kindle for less than seven days, to have to send it back and await a further few weeks for the new one to be shipped, she is also not pleased with Amazon and this is a woman who would buy grocery from Amazon if she could……..

Kindle DX

And just for a bit of controversy check out what's happening behind the summer release of the Kindle DX. Buyers Remorse

Hey Blodeuedd..

Just really annoying..

I'm not impressed with the Kindle DX. I don't think it would be that much of a convenience to carry around because of its size.

I do have a Sony 500 that my husband is currently using. I loved it while I had it and would definitely buy another one.

Bad taste I say on the releases of the Kindle.

I don't necessarily see the DX as direct competition to the Kindle 2. I do think it is shady though they released so soon after Kindle 2...Amazon went on my naughty list after the whole deranking and stripping erotic and GBLT books from sales rankings. But like you said, it is almost impossible to stay away from them.

Erotic Horizon on 22 May 2009 at 20:05 said...

Hey Brandy..

I so agree with you, fineprint wise there is nothing different expect the size and my friend loved that solid feel in her hand.

But as you said - poor form on Amazon in there marketing strategy..

Erotic Horizon on 22 May 2009 at 20:08 said...

Hey Mandi.

Preaching to the choir - the gloves were off from that whole deranking issue...

other than the size and the fact it hold 2000 more PDF file - nothing is different..

What a way of aggravating customers

I went through exactly the same thing 2 days after I ordered my Kindle 2.But it was so much trouble to cancel I convinced myself I dont need the bigger screen or space to save 3500 books instead of 1500 books

I would be beyone annoyed too EH! Amazon is acting like a monopoly, lets face it. They seem to feel they can do whatever they please hoping folks will be too stupid not to notice.

It is insulting really. I buy my books solely from Chapters here in Canada now. I do order from Amazon for USA friends, only because of shipping etc. However I may well use Borders from now on.

Corporate arrogance is insulting at minimum, downright assinine at maximum. Trouble is, they take advantage of people's good faith.

End of diatribe...

PS: Kindle isn't available in Canada anyway - pft....

Totally annoying! I don't blame you for being pissed off and disgruntled, I'm sorry you had to go through all of it and it put a pall on your gift for your friend. So annoying she had to return, then get on a waiting list, etc., definitely takes the fun and joy out of giving! I have the Kindle application on my iPod Touch, which didn't cost me a cent to download. I enjoy using it a lot, but I don't think I'd actually buy a Kindle though due to all the hoo-hah over at Amazon. It's gotten to be, "What's the next stupid jerky thing they're going to do?"

WOW! I can't believe they would do that? That's kind of stupid if you ask me? Unless their were issues with the Kindle 2? And that was why they so quickly upgraded to a newer version? Either way, it's not fair to the consumers who bought the Kindle 2 thinking they were getting the most recent version.

That sucks to have to go through that, both for you and your friend. Another reason why I don't use Amazon anymore unless I absolutely can't help it.

The Kindle has never appealed to me. I bought a Sony Reader and totally love it.

Erotic Horizon on 23 May 2009 at 08:27 said...

Oh Yvette..

Another one that Amazon has more or less annoyed..

You have a good point, my friend she love the larger sized one, the more books to hold -doesn't wash - as who demands to walk around with 3500 books.

Hope you enjoy your Kindle 2

Hey Lea...

Need i say anything more - you have said it all, and as i said earlier,
I hate, hate people having me putting a dollar value on a gift which is what I ended up doing.

Erotic Horizon on 23 May 2009 at 08:30 said...

Even if they had a issue with the K2 - that's just dishonest to come out with something 3months later....

How much more will we bear from Amazon...

Erotic Horizon on 23 May 2009 at 08:31 said...

I am so in your boat.. I never like gadgets that are locked into one software and it is only going further downhill for me with Amazon.

Erotic Horizon on 23 May 2009 at 08:33 said...

That is now the most annoying and upsetting thing - she now has to wait until they do a catch up - as it's a first come first serve basis - so only god knows where we are on this list..

But i only expect this thing to get worst before it gets better..

Amazon so totally piss me off.
