Discussion Point – Accessorizing Your Reading

I find that my kids are the biggest inspiration for these questions for Discussion Point and now i don’t even have to dig deep to find some thought provoking thing to post – they just open their mouths and bingo it’s there.

Today i am talking about accessorizing your reading. My little beasties and i go to an event most Saturday morning and last Saturday – rushing around to get through the door, i realised at the last minute i had the wrong bag…

Asking my youngest to go grab a bag turned out to be a bigger dilemma than it should be. I apparently to my kids all so knowing wisdom carry bags according to the books i am reading.

“Mom what book are you reading and do you have Fitzroy” (My ereader)

My youngest © wanting to know what book  i have to pick up a bag..

I honestly didn’t realise i was actually doing that. I buy bags based on a number of factor, style, look, price, ease of use and now somewhere in the back of my mind my reading habit.

I love oversized bags as a general rule, however with an ereader and paper back  always at hand and all the other things  that goes into a handbag – I have apparently made my reading the priority in  which bag I take each and everyday. i choose bags to cushion my ‘Fitzroy”, i use bags that  i don’t have to fluff with zips to pop my paperback in when i have to rush off  and i found i have not taken a summer bag (cloth back) in a long while for fear of it getting wet and damaging my precious paperback and Fitzroy.

Do you accessorize your reading, if you do – what is it and how far will you go. With ereaders, paper backs, paperbacks do only stop there, what about book marks, soft covers, designer stylus etc…

Did you know you were doing this and are people around you aware of your accessories.

At first I thought that I didn't accessorize, but then I realized that I do. With bookmarks. I have an assortment of book thongs that I make. I have a couple really neat ones that I've ordered. I like having a little pretty dangling from my book :).

Hey Amy,

You so get it, I didn't know I did it until my little demons pointed it out..

In regards to the bookmark, i am just getting into them, not sure about the dangling bit though...

I am a newbie when it comes to bookmarks... so time will only tell.

I love the striped bag above! I must have zippers so nothing falls out, and a nice pouch for a book, pad and paper.

Maybe that is accessorizing my writing, as well!

I definitely buy bags that are big enough for me to shove a book into. I usually just use a scrap piece of paper for a bookmark but someone just gave me an Edward bookmark so that has been fun to use (and look at *g*)

That's my baby Jamie... I love that bag...

I have to have some zips as well, i agree, but with keys, kids and some sort of snack for said kids in hand i need the pockets to pop my books into.

I certainly accessorize my writing - have you seen the pens they have in the shop - ooohhh so cute...

Hey Mandi,

I am a bad one for pieces of papers as book marks... I probably have to go websurfing to find some cute ones..

Good choice on the edwardian bookmark..

A few years back I had a large, really large, collection of bookmarks. I loved them so!!

Then I grew bored with them and as they were lost or broken I just didn't replace. I went back to just pieces of random papers.

My purses always had to be big enough to fit a large paperback book and some were big enough for a hardcover as well. Now that I use my ebook reader I make sure there is an inside pocket large enough to put the reader in, preferably in the middle so it's a bit cushioned on the sides.

Gotta have my Baby with me at all times and he's got to be well protected. Lol, he doesn't have a proper name like Fitzroy but does love to be called Baby ;D

I wish I had a need for a bag to not only carry around my daily essentials but also for my current read.

Outside of home, I have no time to read so bags are chosen for form, not function.

Fun post E.H.! I'm lovin' these discussion points.

Give my best to Fitzroy. :)

Hey Lily..

I get you with the bags needing to be big enough for the books especially hardcovers.

And yes i have to protect Fitzroy - that is truly my baby..

Oh VFG.

to be so lucky, to just go out without a bag with a book in it..

I try to make time to have at least 15minutes for my reading even in a busy day...

it soothes me somehow..
